Weekday AI is seeking an experienced Assistant General Manager – Design to lead design development for commercial interiors and fit-out projects. You will collaborate with clients, architects, and vendors to translate design intent into high-quality spaces.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in interior/commercial design, with strong leadership, coordination skills, and proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, and Adobe Creative Suite.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design development of commercial interior and fit-out projects from concept through execution.
  • Interpret client briefs, business requirements, budgets, and timelines for design solutions.
  • Develop innovative, practical concepts aligned with project goals.
  • Lead space planning, layouts, presentations, materials, and development drawings.
  • Review architectural, interior, furniture, ceilings, flooring, lighting and related design elements.
  • Prepare drawings, specifications, material boards, and project documentation.
  • Coordinate with architects, MEP, project managers, contractors, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Ensure design intent is communicated clearly to execution teams and maintained.
  • Conduct design reviews to identify technical or execution issues.
  • Collaborate with estimation and procurement to keep designs commercially viable.
  • Review materials, finishes, samples, mock-ups, and shop drawings for compliance.
  • Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and approvals.
  • Incorporate client feedback while maintaining quality, feasibility, and timelines.
  • Ensure deliverables are completed on schedule and milestones met.
  • Monitor multiple projects and prioritise design deliverables.
  • Establish design standards, templates, and quality benchmarks.
  • Support value engineering to optimise cost without compromising design intent.
  • Conduct site visits and coordinate with teams to resolve issues.
  • Mentor junior/mid designers and foster a strong design culture.
  • Stay updated on trends, materials, sustainability, and best practices.

We are looking for an experienced and creativeAssistant General Manager – Designto lead design development and execution acrosscommercial interiors and commercial fit-out projects. The role combines design leadership, client collaboration, project coordination, design quality, and execution support to deliver functional, aesthetically strong, and commercially viable interior solutions.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in commercial interior design, a sharp eye for detail, and the ability to manage design projects from concept through execution. You will work closely with clients, architects, consultants, project teams, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure design intent is translated effectively into high-quality completed spaces.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design development ofcommercial interior and commercial fit-out projectsfrom concept through execution.
  • Understand client briefs, business requirements, workplace needs, budgets, timelines, and design expectations.
  • Develop innovative and practical design concepts aligned with project objectives and client requirements.
  • Lead space planning, layouts, concept presentations, material selections, and design development.
  • Review architectural, interior, furniture, ceiling, flooring, lighting, and other relevant design elements.
  • Prepare and review design drawings, presentations, specifications, material boards, and project documentation.
  • Coordinate with architects, consultants, MEP teams, project managers, contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure design intent is clearly communicated to execution teams and maintained throughout project delivery.
  • Conduct design reviews and identify potential technical, functional, or execution-related issues.
  • Work closely with estimation and procurement teams to ensure design solutions remain commercially viable.
  • Review materials, finishes, samples, mock-ups, and shop drawings for compliance with approved designs.
  • Participate in client meetings, design presentations, reviews, and approval discussions.
  • Incorporate client feedback while maintaining design quality, project feasibility, and timelines.
  • Ensure design deliverables are completed accurately and within agreed project schedules.
  • Monitor multiple projects and prioritise design deliverables based on project requirements.
  • Establish and maintain design standards, templates, processes, and quality benchmarks.
  • Support value engineering and identify opportunities to optimise cost without compromising design intent.
  • Conduct site visits and coordinate with project teams to resolve design and execution issues.
  • Review project progress and ensure deviations from approved designs are appropriately evaluated and addressed.
  • Mentor and guide junior and mid-level designers and contribute to building a strong design culture.
  • Stay updated on commercial interior design trends, materials, workplace strategies, sustainability, and emerging design practices.
What Makes You a Great Fit
  • 5+ years of professional experiencein interior design, commercial interiors, workplace design, architecture, or a related field.
  • Strong hands-on experience deliveringcommercial interior and commercial fit-out projects.
  • Proven ability to manage design projects from concept development through execution.
  • Strong understanding of space planning, workplace design, materials, finishes, furniture, lighting, and interior detailing.
  • Experience working on corporate offices, commercial spaces, retail, hospitality, or other large-scale interior projects will be an advantage.
  • Strong proficiency in design and documentation tools such asAutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to interpret and review architectural drawings, technical documentation, BOQs, specifications, and shop drawings.
  • Strong design sensibility with excellent attention to detail, functionality, aesthetics, and buildability.
  • Experience coordinating with clients, architects, consultants, contractors, vendors, and project teams.
  • Strong understanding of project timelines, budgets, cost optimisation, and commercial considerations.
  • Excellent presentation, communication, client-management, and stakeholder-coordination skills.
  • Strong problem-solving ability with a practical and execution-oriented approach.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, deadlines, and design deliverables simultaneously.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring designers and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proactive, organised, and comfortable working in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Strong ownership mindset with a commitment to design quality and successful project delivery.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree inInterior Design, Architecture, Interior Architecture, or a related disciplineis preferred.
