Job summary

John Cockerill is seeking an experienced Line Layout Engineer to plan and deliver furnace layouts for steel processing lines, ensuring integration of equipment, automation space, and maintainability. You will collaborate with engineers, designers, and customers to meet quality and delivery targets.

The role requires 10–15 years in line layout creation for furnaces in steel processing, with proficiency in AutoCAD Mechanical, Inventor, and Smart Plant.

Qualifications

• B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical/Production or Diploma in Mechanical/Production.
• 10–15 years in line layout creation for steel processing lines furnaces.
• Experience with furnace layout integration and equipment selection.

Responsibilities

• Understand contract requirements and customer-approved line layout details.
• Select GA of equipment and integrate with furnace layout under constraints.
• Define pass line, space for maintenance, and access in layouts.
• Coordinate with customers and design teams; produce design documents per QMS.
• Develop structural assignments and foundation data for furnaces.

Job Purpose

Plan and deliver processing line furnace layout (continuous galvanizing, continuous annealing, continuous color coating), enables to achieve operational excellence and support the growth objectives of the organisation.

• Development of furnace layout with integration of equipments, systems, bought outs etc with constraints of building dimensions and column locations.

Key Responsibilities

• Understand the contract requirements, furnace and its equipment philosophy, preliminary approved line layout by the Customer, Building and Column details as shared by client.
• Work with Team Lead Engineer to select the correct GA of equipments and integrate the same with furnace layout, under stated constraints.
• Furnace layout should ensure proper location of equipment in various levels, space for maintenance and accessibility, location for electrical and automation room, various systems placement, crane movements, placement of bought outs, and other storage.
• Furnace layout should define the pass line for the strip properly and work with Line layout Engineer to Integrate the furnace GA in the line layout.
• Discuss the layout with Customer and update for requirements.
• Develop assignments for technological structures to share with structural design house.
• Work on furnace civil assignments/outline drawings and foundation load data.
• Be proactive in the continuous improvements.
• Work in team with group leaders, Engineers, and Designers within Engineering and other functions.
• Create and check engineering related documents as per the Quality Management System (QMS) and Design Approval Matrix.
• Keep themselves abreast of the new technologies and imbibe the same in line layout creation.
• Communication with customers and participation in technical discussions.

Education and Experience

• B.E./B. Tech Mechanical/Production Engineering or Diploma in Mechanical/Production.
• 10- 15 years in Line Layout Creation for steel processing lines Furnaces.

Background, Skills, and Competencies

• Proficiency in line layout generation of equipments at different levels, in different views. Layout generation for steel processing lines
• Conversant to develop furnace layout by finding and placing correct reference mechanical equipment, piping & ducting arrangement, auxiliary systems like hydraulic/pneumatic/lubrication system and utilities under constrained boundary conditions related to space availability and building columns.
• Good understanding of furnace process, equipment, ducting, piping auxiliary systems and utilities.
• AutoCAD Mechanical, Smart Sketch proficiency.
• Inventor and Smart Plant knowledge.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings is a must.
• Ability to bring innovation in design processes to improve quality and delivery.
• Good Interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills.
• Ability to work in an Agile environment in a Collaborative way.
