Job Description
Role Purpose
The Configuration Co‑ordinator is focused on managing and maintaining the Configuration Management System and the Configuration Management Database (CMDB). The co‑ordinator watches over the integrity of the CMDB and associated libraries, acting as the assistant to the Configuration Management Process Manager and reporting directly to them.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and enhance the CMDB, ensuring logical models of IT infrastructure components (CIs) and their associations.
- Accurately register all CIs and enforce naming conventions.
- Interfacing with other support organizations to ensure the effective use of the CMDB and Configuration Management System.
- Recommend and implement improvements for CMDB integrity and usability.
- Create reports and analyses of the CMDB for the Configuration Manager.
- Ensure CI Owners uphold Configuration Management disciplines and systems for the CIs they own.
- Enforce authorized procedures and work practices.
- Own the SACM process end to end.
- Control changes to CIs and the CMS, conducting audits and ensuring all updates are approved and reported.
- Define and maintain asset disposal policy in collaboration with customers.
- Coordinate with change and release teams to keep the CMS up‑to‑date.
- Conduct scheduled and ad‑hoc audits of CIs, define audit policies, handle discrepancies, and maintain repositories and libraries.
- Safeguard the logical integrity of the CMDB and associated libraries.
Configuration Librarian Responsibilities
- Supervise and control receipt, identification, storage, and withdrawal of all supported CIs.
- Supervise functional design and support of the CMDB and associated libraries.
- Assist in identification of products and CIs.
- Maintain and provide status information on CIs.
- Record receipt of authorized new or revised configurations and archive superseded configurations to the appropriate library.
- Hold master copies of documents, software, etc.
- Notify holders of any changes to their products or CIs.
- Assist in conducting audits.
Key Skills and Competencies
- Good analytic, decision‑making, communication, presentation, and conflict‑resolution skills.
- Technical background with experience in multiple IT technologies and disciplines.
- IT hardware and software setup, management, and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Experience with configuration management tools, document control, source code management, and defect management tools.
- Capability to create a CMDB repository and understanding of the software development lifecycle.
- Experience working in a multi‑site environment.
- Extensive experience with SCM tools and build automation software.
