Job summary

Vankar Interiors is seeking a Design Leader to set and execute the creative vision for complex commercial spaces. You will direct spatial concepts, architectural direction, and FF&E decisions to align with brand identities.

You will oversee project management, technical oversight, construction administration, and client stakeholder management, ensuring compliance with codes, accessibility, and certifications while mentoring junior staff and guiding design standards.

Responsibilities

• Establish and drive the creative vision, spatial concepts, and architectural direction for complex commercial projects.
• Direct space planning, zoning, circulation studies, and test fits tailored to commercial client workflows and brand identities.
• Lead material selection, finish palettes, custom millwork, furniture specification (FF&E), and lighting integration.
• Review and approve detailed Construction Documentation (CD) sets, detailing, and architectural specifications.
• Oversee structural, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing), acoustical, and technical integration with engineering consultants.
• Ensure full compliance with local building codes, ADA accessibility guidelines, life-safety standards, and environmental certifications (e.g., LEED, WELL).
• Act as the primary technical and design lead in client presentations, design reviews, and steering committee meetings.
• Translate client business goals, workplace strategies, and brand values into functional architectural design.
• Manage client expectations regarding budget, scope changes, and project timelines.
• Lead site visits, review contractor RFIs (Requests for Information), submittals, and shop drawings.
• Conduct site inspections, manage punch lists, and ensure construction aligns with design intent and quality standards.
• Value-engineer designs when necessary to keep projects within budget without compromising core aesthetics.
• Mentor and manage junior architects, interior designers, and drafting specialists.
• Assist project managers with fee proposal preparation, staffing allocation, and work-breakdown structures.
• Drive internal design reviews, quality control protocols, and studio design standards.
