The International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS) invites applications for a Project Research Assistant to work on the Indian Monsoon project at its Bengaluru campus. The role involves computational and theoretical work, including Markov Random Fields to extract patterns in physical quantities relevant to monsoon dynamics.
Applicants should hold a B.Tech in Chemical/Mechanical/Civil or MSc in Physics with strong computational experience and a solid record in nonlinear dynamics.
The International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS) of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), a premier research centre (an Autonomous, Grant-in-Aid Institution of the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India), invites highly motivated and self-driven individuals for a walk-in recruitment for the post of Project Research Assistant to work on a project ‘Indian Monsoon’ at its Bangalore office. The candidates should have the following qualifications and experience:
1. ProjectResearch
Assistant
B Tech in Chemical / Mechanical / Civil or related subject or M Sc in Physics or a related subject
Research experience in scientific computation is essential
In addition to coursework, research experience in solving fluid mechanical problems is essential
A very strong academic record
Familiarity with nonlinear dynamics and related topics
An interest in basic research and ability to commit one year to this project
Familiarity with atmosphere and ocean processes
Familiarity with probability and stochastic processes
The project offers excellent opportunities for fundamental research. The study will be computational and theoretical, and will involve the use of Markov Random Fields to obtain patterns in physical quantities relevant to the Indian monsoon. The ideal project assistant will be extremely strong academically, especially in mathematics and scientific computation.
Salary will be commensurate with the candidate's experience, qualification, potential and according to the Centre’s norms. The selected candidate will be required to join immediately.
