Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Application Engineering Engineer | APAC

About the Role

We are looking for an Application Engineer with strong experience in chilled-water systems, hydronics, pumps and HVAC water-side applications to support our APAC sales and engineering activities.

The ideal candidate will combine strong technical knowledge with customer-facing and commercial skills. You will work closely with sales teams, consultants, customers and internal engineering teams to evaluate project requirements, select the right products, develop optimized solutions and support the business in converting enquiries into orders.

This is not a pure estimation or quotation role. The position requires a strong understanding of the complete chilled-water system and the ability to translate technical requirements into an efficient and commercially compelling solution.

Key Responsibilities

1. Application & Enquiry Evaluation

• Review customer enquiries, technical specifications, P&I/P&ID drawings and project documentation.
• Understand the complete HVAC water-side application, including chillers, pumps, chilled-water piping, cooling towers and associated equipment.
• Evaluate application requirements and identify the most suitable products and solutions.
• Interpret system flow, pressure, pump head, operating conditions and other technical parameters.
• Identify opportunities to optimize product selection and maximize solution value.

2. Pump & Hydronic System Application

• Select and size pumps based on required flow, head and system operating conditions.
• Understand hydraulic calculations, pressure drop, system resistance and pump/system curves.
• Evaluate primary/secondary pumping and variable-primary-flow (VPF) applications.
• Understand VFD-based pumping and opportunities for reducing pumping energy.
• Support selection of pumps and related fluid-flow solutions for chilled-water and condenser-water systems.
• Evaluate system requirements to ensure reliable and energy-efficient operation.

3. Technical Sales Support

• Work closely with the sales team from enquiry stage through technical clarification and order closure.
• Provide technical support during customer meetings, presentations, tender discussions and negotiations.
• Participate in customer and consultant meetings to understand project requirements and influence technical specifications.
• Develop technically sound and commercially competitive solutions.
• Explain the technical and financial benefits of proposed solutions to customers and consultants.

4. Product Selection & Quotation

• Use application/product selection tools to select appropriate equipment.
• Prepare technical quotations and supporting documentation.
• Review specifications and ensure proposed solutions comply with customer and consultant requirements.
• Prepare technical submittals, compliance statements and supporting technical documents.
• Coordinate with internal engineering and sales teams for complex applications and project enquiries.

5. Value Engineering & Optimization

• Identify opportunities to improve system efficiency, reliability and lifecycle cost.
• Develop value-engineered alternatives to conventional solutions.
• Evaluate CAPEX versus OPEX and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
• Demonstrate energy-saving opportunities through optimized pump selection, controls, VFDs and system design.
• Articulate the technical and commercial value of solutions rather than competing solely on initial price.

6. Consultant & Customer Engagement

• Develop strong technical relationships with MEP consultants, contractors, OEMs and end customers.
• Support specification development and ensure products are appropriately incorporated into project requirements.
• Conduct technical presentations, product demonstrations and customer training.
• Participate in site visits and technical discussions across the APAC region as required.
• Represent the organization professionally in customer and consultant interactions.

7. Sales Planning & Business Support

• Work with sales managers to identify opportunities and develop strategies for successful closure.
• Support tender reviews, project tracking, forecasting and sales planning.
• Contribute to regional sales initiatives and key-account activities.
• Support the sales team in improving enquiry-to-order conversion and maximizing product content.
• Track relevant application and sales KPIs.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering / Building Services / HVAC / MEP Engineering or a related discipline.
• Additional qualifications in HVAC, hydronics, energy management or business management will be an advantage.

Experience

• Approximately 810 years of experience in application engineering, technical sales, solutions engineering, HVAC engineering or pump/fluid-flow applications.
• Experience with chillers, chilled-water systems, pumps and hydronic applications is highly preferred.
• Experience working with MEP consultants, contractors, OEMs or end customers is desirable.
• Candidates from large engineering consultancies, HVAC/chiller companies, pump manufacturers, EPC/EPCM organizations and technical solution providers are preferred.
