Job summary

Persistent Systems is seeking an experienced Apigee Engineer with 6 to 12 years of API management, security, and enterprise integration expertise. You will design, develop, and secure APIs using Apigee X, build scalable proxy architectures, and drive API governance across the organization.

You will collaborate with architects, DevOps, and stakeholders to implement security policies (OAuth 2.0, JWT, API keys), manage CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins and Git, and contribute to modernization efforts

Qualifications

• 6–12 years of API development, integration, and management experience.
• Hands‑on with Apigee X and API Gateway technologies.
• Experience with API lifecycle management and policy implementation.
• Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, JSON, XML, and OpenAPI.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP/AWS/Azure).
• Experience in Agile/Scrum environments.
• Ability to mentor and collaborate with teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise‑grade API proxies using Apigee X.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Apigee Engineer with 6 to 12 years of experience in API Management, API Security, and Enterprise Integration. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands‑on expertise with Apigee X, API proxy development, policy implementation, API governance, and cloud-based integration solutions. You will play a key role in designing, developing, securing, and managing enterprise APIs while driving API strategy, best practices, and scalable integration architectures across the organization.

What You'll Do:

• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise‑grade API proxies using Apigee X.
• Architect and implement secure, scalable, and high‑performing API management solutions.
• Develop and enforce API security policies including OAuth 2.0, JWT, API Keys, Quota, Spike Arrest, and access control mechanisms.
• Integrate APIs with backend systems, microservices, cloud platforms, and third‑party applications.
• Design and implement API lifecycle management processes including versioning, governance, monitoring, and retirement strategies.
• Create and manage OpenAPI specifications and API documentation standards.
• Implement traffic management, rate limiting, RBAC, and API analytics capabilities.
• Collaborate with architects, developers, DevOps teams, and business stakeholders to define API requirements and integration strategies.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated API deployment using Jenkins, Git, and DevOps tools.
• Monitor API performance, troubleshoot production issues, and optimize API reliability and scalability.
• Conduct API testing, validation, and performance assessments using tools such as Postman and automated testing frameworks.
• Review API designs and provide technical leadership on best practices and architectural standards.
• Support modernization initiatives involving microservices, cloud‑native applications, and digital transformation programs.
• Develop operational documentation, API standards, deployment guides, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge‑sharing initiatives within the team.

Expertise You'll Bring:

• 6 to 12 years of experience in API development, integration, and API management platforms.
• Strong hands‑on expertise with Apigee X and API Gateway technologies.
• Extensive experience in API proxy development, shared flows, policy implementation, and API lifecycle management.
• Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, HTTP protocols, JSON, XML, and OpenAPI specifications.
• Experience implementing API security mechanisms including OAuth 2.0, JWT, API Keys, TLS, and access control policies.
• Experience integrating APIs with enterprise applications, backend services, and cloud‑based platforms.
• Strong knowledge of API governance, traffic management, rate limiting, and API analytics.
• Hands‑on experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Git, GitHub, and automated deployment pipelines.
• Experience testing, debugging, and troubleshooting API proxies, policies, and integrations.
• Understanding of microservices architecture and cloud‑native application development.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), AWS, or Microsoft Azure.
• Experience working in Agile and Scrum delivery environments.
• Strong problem‑solving, analytical, and troubleshooting capabilities.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to lead technical discussions, drive architecture decisions, and mentor engineering teams.
