Job Purpose
Lead the mechanical engineering, procurement support, erection, commissioning, and project execution activities for the SMS-3 project, ensuring timely completion within approved cost, quality, safety, and technical parameters.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the overall mechanical project execution for SMS-3 from engineering through commissioning and stabilization.
- Develop and monitor the mechanical project execution strategy, project schedule, milestones, and resource requirements.
- Review and approve mechanical design, equipment specifications, technical documents, drawings, datasheets, and vendor submissions.
- Coordinate with technology suppliers, EPC contractors, consultants, equipment vendors, and internal departments.
- Oversee major SMS mechanical packages including:
- Induction Furnace
- Ladle refining Furnace
- Continuous Casting Machine
- Ladle and tundish handling systems
- Cranes and material handling equipment
- Hydraulic, pneumatic and lubrication systems
- Cooling water systems
- Fume extraction / pollution control interfaces
- Utility and auxiliary systems
- Ensure equipment selection and design are aligned with production capacity, reliability, maintainability, and future expansion requirements.
- Monitor vendor manufacturing, inspection, FAT, dispatch, erection, commissioning, and performance guarantee activities.
- Lead interdisciplinary coordination between Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Civil, Automation, Production, Maintenance, and Safety teams.
- Identify technical risks, interface issues, and project bottlenecks and drive timely resolution.
- Monitor project expenditure against approved CAPEX and support cost-control initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, statutory requirements, safety standards, and company specifications.
- Lead mechanical pre-commissioning, commissioning, trial runs, performance tests, and final handover.
- Ensure timely closure of punch points, commissioning observations, and performance guarantee issues.
- Establish equipment documentation, O&M manuals, spare-parts requirements, as-built drawings, and maintenance requirements before handover.
- Guide and mentor the mechanical project team and contractors.
- Conduct regular project reviews with management and provide progress, risk, and recovery plans.
