Job summary

Aurora Energy Research Limited invites an Advisory Analyst to join our Gurugram office. You will help develop and maintain energy modelling tools, analyse model outputs with our teams, and contribute to client-ready insights for the Indian power sector.

The role requires a quantitative degree, strong analytical skills and experience in energy or consultancy. You will work closely with research, consulting and business development, leveraging Python and Excel for complex data analysis.

Qualifications

  • Quantitative degree from a top university (Economics, Engineering, Mathematics or CS).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in consultancy, energy, financial services or knowledge-focused firms.
  • Understanding of power system operations and Indian power sector.
  • Ability to analyze complex data.
  • Knowledge of Python.
  • Experience modelling hybrid energy products in India.
  • Experience on energy projects or policy in India (Power/Renewables).
  • Knowledge of energy modelling and power markets.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team player.
  • Ability to translate client statements into outputs using Aurora models.
  • Self-starter and quick learner.
  • MS Excel and MS PowerPoint experience.

Advisory Analyst

Department: Advisory

Description

This is a unique international opportunity for an experienced university graduate or a professional seeking to build their career in the energy sector to join our India advisory team. You will be based in our Gurugram office. The role will focus on modelling complex power market products including but not limited to round-the-clock RE, flexible renewable energy solutions markets, contributing to our efforts by developing analytical and computational tools, enhancing our modelling methodology, analyzing data and conveying insights to enhance clients’ decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain Aurora’s suite of energy marketing models
  • Work closely with our research and consulting teams to derive insights from model results
  • Contribute to continuously improving how the modelling team operates
  • Supporting business development work, for example by contributing delivery plans to our proposals
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Required attributes:
  • Relevant degree in Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or other quantitative field from a top university (First class university degree from premier institute (IITs and IIMs preferred)
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and analytical ability
  • Experience of working at a major consultancy, energy company, financial services company or other knowledge-focused firm or institution
  • Strong understanding of power system operations including grid, battery and renewable energy system operations and their role in the Indian power sector
  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex quantitative data and information
  • Knowledge of one programming language, e.g. Python
  • Demonstrated ability to work on complex energy modelling of hybrid power products in the Indian power sector, battery modelling etc.
  • Previous experience of working on energy-related projects or policy – particularly in an Indian context (preferably in Power and Renewables domain)
  • Preferred understanding of energy modelling, especially power markets
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and a great team player
  • Ability to understand client problem statements and analyse client relevant outputs using Aurora models
  • Self-starter and strong self-learning attitude
  • Strong experience of working with MS Excel, complex datasets, MS Powerpoint
Desirable attributes:
  • Bachelors degree from top tier university
  • Experience in a quantitative and/or technical role
  • Knowledge of and interest in energy markets, and a belief that well-designed models significantly improve decision making
  • Knowledge of statistical and/or optimization techniques
