Job summary

ESB is seeking an Underground Cables Specialist within the Underground Networks team. You will manage MV/HV underground cables, provide specialist support to ESB Networks and stakeholders, and drive data-driven asset performance reporting.

Role involves developing standards, maintaining safety and regulatory compliance, and guiding cable system design and maintenance to support a resilient network for renewable connections and electrification goals. Hybrid working applies.

Qualifications

• Honours Level 8 Engineering Degree in Electrical/ Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
• 7 years design / construction / operational experience in Power Utility industry.
• Masters Level 9 Engineering Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
• Strong report writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop standards, specifications, policies, and procedures for the full lifecycle management of underground cables from 400 kV to LV.
• Identify risk associated with Underground Cables in relation to public safety, staff safety, environmental, legal/regulatory, reputation and continuity.
• Perform due diligence reviews of cable system designs for Contestable Developments where appropriate, to ensure compliance with Specifications and Quality expectations.
• Assume technical ownership of key Cable Frameworks including cables, accessories, clamps, monitoring systems and more.
• Attendance at Factory Acceptance Testing.
• Establishing and fostering strong working relationships with suppliers on behalf of the Asset Owner to ensure security of the supply chain.
• Support ESB Networks data driven strategy to report on asset performance in a comprehensive and concise manner.
