Job summary

Blackrock Health Hermitage Clinic in Lucan, Co Dublin, Ireland, is seeking a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Thoracic Surgery & Lung Cancer. This on-site role requires expert nursing skills, leadership, and collaboration with Consultants, GPs and MDT members to deliver high-quality patient care across the thoracic pathway.

Qualifications

• Registered nurse with current NMBI general division.
• Minimum five years post-registration nursing experience in acute hospital setting.
• Two+ years in thoracic surgery, lung cancer, or cancer nursing (preferred).
• Demonstrated continuing professional development in area of practice.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist nursing service for lung cancer patients across continuum of care.
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments (physical, psychosocial, spiritual) using evidence-based thoracic nursing practices.
• Develop and implement care plans with MDT and patient/family involvement.
• Monitor responses to treatment; adjust plans with MDT input.
• Coordinate investigations, therapies and follow-up (radiology, lung function, pathology).
• Offer pre-operative education and post-operative care including chest drain management and complication prevention.
• Lead and participate in medication reconciliation and reviews with the medical team.
• Support patient self-management and provide education/resources.
