Job summary

Blackrock Health Hermitage Clinic is recruiting a Clinical Nurse Specialist for Thoracic Surgery and Lung Cancer. The CNS will deliver evidence‑based, patient-centered care, lead nurse-led clinics, and work with Consultants and MDTs to optimise outcomes.

The role requires extensive thoracic nursing experience, strong leadership and education skills, and a commitment to continuous quality improvement within a state‑of‑the‑art private facility in Lucan.

Qualifications

• Be registered in the general division of the NMBI.
• Minimum five years post-registration nursing experience in an acute hospital.
• Minimum two years in thoracic surgery, lung cancer or cancer nursing.
• Have QQI Level 8 qualification or be willing to complete within one year.
• Commitment to continuing professional development (CPD).

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist nursing for patients with lung cancer through the continuum of care.
• Undertake comprehensive patient assessment across physical, psychological and social aspects.
• Develop and implement care plans in collaboration with the MDT and patient/family.
• Deliver expert pre- and post-operative thoracic nursing care, including chest drain management.
• Coordinate thoracic/lung cancer clinics with MDT input and follow-up.
• Promote patient advocacy, education and self-management.
• Maintain data and KPIs for service improvement.
• Lead in nursing quality improvement and risk management.
