Job summary

Servisource is seeking a compassionate Theatre Manager (CNM3) to lead our client's perioperative services within a busy acute hospital setting in Ireland. The post holder will provide senior clinical leadership, strategic management and operational oversight of the Theatre Department, in partnership with the Director of Nursing.

  • Registered Nurse with NMBI registration and hospital senior management experience.
  • Minimum five years’ post-registration experience in acute hospital.

Responsibilities

Servisource is seeking to hire a compassionate and experienced Theatre Manager (CNM3) to join our clients facility in providing exceptional care.

The Theatre Manager provides senior clinical leadership, strategic management and operational oversight and the Theatre Department. Working in partnership with the Director of Nursing and senior management team, the post holder ensures the delivery of safe, effective and efficient perioperative services. This includes the management of staff, scheduling of theatre lists, optimisation of resources and promotion of a patient-centred culture in line with national standards, professional codes of practice and the client governance frameworks.

Key Responsibilities
Operational
  • Manage the Theatre Department, taking responsibility for the safe delivery and co-ordination of nursing and clinical services.
  • Ensure the primacy of the patient is maintained throughout all hospital activities.
  • Provide operational support including safety and quality walkabouts, audits, and user satisfaction reviews.
  • Evaluate nursing care systems and recommend evidence-based improvements.
  • Oversee compliance with clinical standards and ensure regular monitoring and auditing.
  • Develop specialist perioperative care services and promote innovative practice.
  • Monitor and investigate clinical complaints, ensuring corrective actions and audit follow-up.
  • Facilitate effective communication with patients, relatives, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Liaise regularly with the Director of Nursing to provide updates on activity and performance.
  • Participate in hospital committees and lead projects as delegated by the Director of Nursing or CEO.
  • Drive optimisation of theatre and efficiencies in scheduling and use of resources while maintaining quality and safety.
People & Workforce Management
  • Provide professional and operational leadership to A/DONs, CNMs, nursing teams and support staff, ensuring high standards of care and accountability.
  • Ensure that all nursing and support services within the department are managed to optimise effectiveness and quality.
  • Provide professional leadership and direction to promote a positive working environment and strong employee relations.
  • Contribute to financial planning and resource allocation for pay and non-pay expenditure.
  • Oversee recruitment, induction, and performance management for nursing and support staff.
  • Ensure robust orientation programmes and clear role expectations are in place.
  • Develop and maintain communication mechanisms including regular staff meetings and feedback channels.
  • Maintain high staff morale, accountability, and performance through effective leadership.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures are developed and maintained in line with CHKS accreditation and hospital standards.
  • Manage workforce planning, rostering and skill mix to meet service needs.
Learning & Education
  • Identify learning and development needs aligned to service requirements and individual staff development plans.
  • Collaborate with Learning & Education to deliver structured in-service training programmes.
  • Ensure compliance with NMBI professional standards and promote continued education and skill development.
  • Support postgraduate study, mentoring and competency assessment for all perioperative staff.
Quality Improvement and Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with the client policies, legislation, and accreditation standards.
  • Promote continuous quality improvement and evidence-based practice through regular audit and evaluation.
  • Be accountable for risk assessment, hygiene, infection control, and health & safety within the Theatre.
  • Lead quality initiatives, develop KPIs, and implement action plans for service improvement.
  • Foster a culture of safety, transparency, and positive incident reporting.
  • Lead on risk management investigations and ensure learning outcomes are shared.
  • Maintain oversight of accreditation and regulatory compliance processes.
  • Registered Nurse (NMBI) or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum of five years recent post-registration experience in an acute hospital and at least two years in a management role at CNM3 level or equivalent.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Perioperative Nursing or related field.
  • Proven leadership and operational management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in quality improvement, clinical governance and service development.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organisational abilities.
