Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced System Engineer with strong Kubernetes, Linux, cloud infrastructure, automation and software engineering expertise. The successful candidate will design, implement and operate cloud-native infrastructure at scale, with a particular focus on Kubernetes platforms and automation.
This is an engineering-focused role, requiring strong hands-on experience building, automating and improving infrastructure platforms rather than a traditional systems administration background.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement and operate Kubernetes-based infrastructure using current and emerging cloud-native technologies.
- Provide technical consultation and support to service owners on their infrastructure and engineering requirements.
- Work across a broad range of technologies, including containerisation, compute and network management tools, Terraform, Kubernetes, configuration management and foundational systems such as DNS, LDAP and DHCP.
- Develop Python and/or Go, Ansible and Terraform automation and tooling to build, scale and operate Kubernetes platforms.
- Leverage AI tools and techniques to improve the way cloud infrastructure is built, scaled and maintained.
- Improve monitoring and alerting using cloud-native technologies such as Prometheus and Grafana.
- Work as part of a team that writes, reviews and deploys infrastructure as code using GitOps workflows and CI/CD pipelines.
- Research, evaluate and implement new open-source and commercial tools, technologies and methodologies.
Drive improvements to platform reliability, scalability, security and operational efficiency.- Troubleshoot complex production infrastructure and Kubernetes issues and contribute to root-cause analysis.
Required Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of experience in systems production engineering and infrastructure, with deep Linux knowledge.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience running Kubernetes in production.
- Strong understanding of Kubernetes architecture, security, policies and platform operations.
- Strong understanding of Kubernetes internals, including:
- Controllers and operators
- Strong software development experience, including designing, authoring, testing and debugging code in Python and/or Golang.
- Experience developing or customising Kubernetes operators/controllers is a strong advantage.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-native automation and tooling including:
- Terraform
- Ansible
- Flux and/or ArgoCD
- Ingress/egress
- Load balancing
- DNS
- TLS
- Firewalls
- Service mesh experience is an advantage.
- Strong experience with monitoring, logging and alerting using tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.
