Provide safe, high-quality, patient-centred nursing care to patients attending the Endoscopy Unit, ensuring individual needs are assessed and care is delivered in accordance with NMBI standards, hospital policies and clinical guidelines.
Admit, prepare and recover patients before and after endoscopic procedures, administer prescribed medications and treatments safely, and promptly report any changes or concerns regarding patient condition to the appropriate medical and nursing staff.
Provide technical assistance during diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, maintaining aseptic techniques, infection prevention measures, patient safety, privacy, dignity, confidentiality and valid consent throughout the patient journey.
Participate in the care, maintenance, decontamination and safe handling of endoscopes and specialist equipment, ensuring accurate traceability records and compliance with required standards and procedures.
Maintain complete, accurate and timely patient documentation, including nursing assessments, interventions, outcomes, patient education and records within the hospital Meditech system, while ensuring confidentiality at all times.
Work effectively with the multidisciplinary team, coordinate patient admissions and departmental activities, prioritise workloads and contribute to the efficient management of the Endoscopy Unit and effective use of available resources.
Participate in quality improvement, risk management, clinical audits, accreditation processes and research activities, contributing to JCI and JAG standards, health promotion initiatives and the continuous development of best-practice care.
Support the education and development of nursing and support staff by participating in clinical induction, student supervision, preceptorship, teaching programmes, proficiency assessments and identification of training needs.
Maintain professional competence and development through performance reviews, mandatory training, study days, professional education and maintaining an up-to-date portfolio, including required BLS and ACLS training.
Demonstrate flexibility and leadership by deputising for the Nurse Manager when required, participating in meetings and on-call services, supporting other departments when necessary, and undertaking additional duties in line with the needs of the hospital.
Registered General Nurse with a current NMBI registration in good standing.
Minimum of 1 year post-registration experience in an acute hospital setting, with at least 6 months of experience working in an Endoscopy Unit.
Possess relevant Endoscopy-specific qualifications and demonstrate current knowledge and experience within the specialty.
Demonstrate knowledge of gastrointestinal and respiratory conditions, including their diagnosis, treatment, management and related patient health education.
Demonstrate the ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised nursing care while maintaining a strong focus on patient safety and quality.
Ability to provide compassionate and respectful care to patients, relatives and colleagues, maintaining dignity, confidentiality and effective patient-centred communication.
Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate information clearly and effectively and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Demonstrate strong planning, organisation, prioritisation and time management skills, with the flexibility to work varied rosters, internal rotations, night duty and on-call services as required.
Demonstrate knowledge of evidence-based practice, clinical research, JAG accreditation, relevant national nursing strategies and professional responsibilities, with up-to-date BLS and ACLS certification.
Demonstrate adaptability, initiative, motivation and an innovative approach to practice, with the ability to respond effectively to changing service needs and contribute positively to change management.
