Qualifications

• 6-9 years of experience in software engineering or test automation.

Location: Hybrid - Galway

Office Attendance: Approximately 1 week per month in Galway

Contract: 11 months

Rate: €400 per day

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer in Test (SDET) to join a high-performing Agile engineering team on an 11-month contract.

This is a hands-on engineering role combining software development and test automation, with a strong focus on building robust, maintainable and highly testable customer-facing applications.

You will play an important role in embedding automation and quality engineering practices across the development lifecycle, helping the wider team improve test coverage, release velocity and production quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain and improve automated test solutions and customer-facing software.
• Develop and maintain automated unit, component, integration, functional, performance, scenario and interoperability tests.
• Build and enhance automation frameworks using Java or Ruby, Cucumber and related technologies.
• Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines.
• Work closely with developers, testers and Scrum teams to improve testability, software quality and defect prevention.
• Contribute to application development using Java, JavaScript/Angular and RESTful web services.
• Participate in code reviews and test-code reviews.
• Improve automated test coverage and support increased release velocity.
• Apply software engineering and testing principles to promote reliable, secure and maintainable solutions.
• Investigate complex technical problems and help resolve issues at source rather than simply identifying defects.
• Work effectively with distributed and international engineering teams.

Essential Experience

• 6-9 years' experience in software engineering, test automation or a closely related discipline.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java and the Java ecosystem and/or Ruby.
• Strong experience developing and maintaining test automation frameworks.
• Experience with Cucumber.
• Strong understanding of JavaScript.
• Experience with HTTP and RESTful web services.
• Experience with Jenkins and CI/CD environments.
• Experience working with front-end and web service applications.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, coding standards, source control, build processes and testing.
• Experience working within an Agile/Scrum environment.
• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
