Job summary

MCO is seeking an experienced software engineer to join the MCO Labs in Dublin. You will design, build, deploy and test cloud-native backend services using Python and AWS, delivering POCs and first-of-a-kind solutions.

You will work closely with architecture, engineering and product management teams to ensure solutions meet future needs, while following IaC, CI/CD, security and cost optimisation practices. This is a hybrid role with 2 days per week in Dublin offices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 3+ years hands-on AWS cloud engineering.
• 3+ years backend development with Python (Django/Flask/FastAPI).
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
• 3+ years designing and managing CI/CD pipelines (GitLab).
• Strong understanding of AWS architecture and best practices.
• Hands-on AWS Lambda and API Gateway experience.

Job description

This is a key role within the MCO Labs teams based in Dublin. The role is responsible for the implementation of technology proofs of concept and first of a kind new product. In this role, you will be working with a small, highly talented and driven group to build the POCs and first of a kind solution that will shape the future direction of the MCO product technology. Cloud & backend technology will form a key part of your toolkit, both for building solutions and powering them.

In this position, you will design, build, deploy and test software, using the best tools and technologies in the market. You’ll be challenged to do things you’ve never done before, building solutions to problems that appear impossible to solve (if they turn out to be impossible, identifying and highlighting this in a timely manner will be key). Working closely with the architecture, engineering and product management teams to ensure solutions match future needs and working within the constraints of our business and available technology.

This is a hybrid role; you should expect to spend 2 days a week in the MCO offices in Dublin city centre.

Responsibilities

Prototype & Build

• Rapidly prototype and build cloud-native solutions and backend services using Python and frameworks such as Django, Flask or FastAPI.
• Leverage multiple DB type(relational or non-relational) in developing efficient solutions.
• Use AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, S3, RDS, DocumentDB, DynamoDB, SQS, SNS, EC2and other appropriate services to solve engineering problems effectively.
• Evaluate new technologies and approaches to improve solution quality and engineering productivity.

End-to-End Delivery & Ownership

• Take solutions from prototype through deployment and operational readiness.
• Provision and manage AWS infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure as Code best practices.
• Design and manage CI/CD pipelines for automated application and infrastructure delivery.
• Apply best practices for security, scalability, reliability, performance and cost optimisation in cloud.
• Integrate security and quality checks into development and deployment pipelines.
• Contribute to architecture decisions, code reviews, engineering standards, reusable components, and technical knowledge sharing.

Experience and Skills

• Overall 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience in AWS cloud engineering.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience developing backend systems using Python, Flask/Django/FastAPI.
• Hands-on experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB or similar.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience designing and managing CI/CD pipelines, using GitLab or similar.
• Strong understanding of AWS cloud architecture and AWS best practices.
• Hands-on experience with AWS Lambda and API Gateway.
