Job summary

Pivotal Recruitment Limited is seeking a Site Engineer or Senior Site Engineer to join a leading main contractor on a commercial construction project in Dublin. This full-time, permanent position offers a key technical delivery role and opportunities to mentor junior engineers.

You will lead setting-out and surveying activities, coordinate with design teams and subcontractors, and ensure quality and safety standards are met.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline required.
• Experience as Site Engineer / Senior Site Engineer in construction.
• Experience with main contractors and commercial projects is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical and engineering support to the Project Manager, Site Manager and wider project team.
• Carry out setting out, levelling and surveying of works using appropriate equipment.
• Ensure setting out and engineering works comply with drawings, specifications and project requirements.
• Review drawings and technical information to identify discrepancies or issues.
• Coordinate with subcontractors, consultants and design teams.
• Monitor subcontractor works for quality and compliance.
• Assist with planning and coordination to meet programme milestones.
• Maintain accurate site records and RFIs, submittals and documentation.
• Liaise with design team to resolve queries and ensure information is available.
• Carry out quality inspections and ensure compliance with the Quality Management System.
• Identify and resolve technical issues with the project team.
• Assist with inspections, snagging and handover of works.
• Attend site and project meetings as required.
• Support Safety Management System implementation and adherence.

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Site Engineer / Senior Site Engineer to join one of our client's project teams, a leading main contractor, on a commercial construction project in Dublin. This is a full-time, permanent position suited to an experienced Engineer looking to take a key role in the technical delivery of a high-quality commercial project.

Role and Responsibilities

• Provide technical and engineering support to the Project Manager, Site Manager and wider project team.
• Carry out setting out, levelling and surveying of works using appropriate equipment.
• Ensure all setting out and engineering works are completed accurately and in accordance with drawings, specifications and project requirements.
• Review construction drawings, specifications and technical information, identifying and resolving any discrepancies or potential issues.
• Coordinate with subcontractors, consultants, design teams and other members of the project team.
• Monitor subcontractor works to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications and required quality standards.
• Assist with the planning and coordination of site activities to ensure the construction programme and key milestones are achieved.
• Maintain accurate engineering and site records, including setting-out information, surveys, inspections and as-built documentation.
• Prepare and manage RFIs, technical submittals and other relevant site documentation.
• Liaise with the design team and consultants to resolve technical queries and ensure required information is available in line with the construction programme.
• Carry out quality inspections and ensure works comply with the company's Quality Management System.
• Identify technical or construction issues at an early stage and work with the project team to implement effective solutions.
• Monitor materials and ensure they comply with project specifications and quality requirements.
• Assist with inspections, snagging and the completion and handover of works.
• Attend site, technical and project meetings as required.
• Support the implementation and maintenance of the company's Safety Management System.
• Ensure engineering activities are carried out in accordance with all relevant health & safety regulations, company procedures and quality standards.
• For more senior candidates, provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and other members of the site team.

Requirements

• Previous experience working as a Site Engineer / Senior Site Engineer within the construction industry.
• Relevant Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering or a related discipline.
• Previous experience working for a Main Contractor is highly desirable.
• Experience working on commercial construction projects is desirable.
• Strong setting-out, surveying and technical engineering experience.
• Good knowledge of construction drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
• Proficiency with relevant surveying equipment and engineering software.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, sequencing and site operations.
• Proven ability to identify and resolve technical issues effectively.
• Excellent organisational, planning and time-management skills.
• Ability to coordinate effectively with subcontractors, consultants and members of the wider project team.
• Ability to work effectively on own initiative and as part of a team.
• Self-motivated with a proactive and detail-focused approach.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong understanding of health & safety and quality requirements within the construction industry.
• For a Senior Site Engineer position, previous experience supporting or mentoring junior engineers would be advantageous.
