Job summary

NexVentur group is seeking an experienced Site Engineer/Setting-Out Engineer for a major school construction project in Athenry, Co. Galway.

You will work with the Project Manager and site team to ensure precise setting-out, quality control and timely progress on site. Responsibilities include interpreting drawings, maintaining control points, coordinating with subcontractors, and preparing as-built records while upholding health and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering or related discipline.
• Experience as Site Engineer or Setting-Out Engineer on construction projects.
• Proficient reading of drawings and specifications.
• Experience with surveying instruments (Total Stations, GPS, laser levels).
• Knowledge of health and safety requirements and building regulations.

Responsibilities

• Carry out accurate setting-out of building works, foundations, structural elements, drainage, levels and infrastructure.
• Interpret drawings, specifications and technical information to coordinate works.

Job description

We are currently seeking an experienced Site Engineer / Setting-Out Engineer to join the site team on a school construction project in Athenry, Co. Galway.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong and motivated engineer to play a key role in the successful delivery of a major construction project, working alongside the Project Manager, Site Management team and subcontractors.

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out setting-out duties, ensuring works are completed in accordance with drawings and specifications, monitoring quality standards and supporting the day-to-day coordination of site activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out accurate setting-out of building works, foundations, structural elements, drainage, levels and associated infrastructure.
• Interpret and work from construction drawings, specifications and technical information.
• Establish and maintain site control points, benchmarks and grid lines.
• Use surveying equipment, including Total Stations, GPS and laser levels.
• Ensure all works are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications and relevant building regulations.
• Check dimensions, levels, alignment and positioning of structural and architectural elements.
• Coordinate with subcontractors, site management and design teams to ensure works are completed accurately and efficiently.
• Monitor construction progress and identify any technical issues or discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate site records, surveying information and quality control documentation.
• Assist with the preparation of as-built drawings and site reports.
• Carry out quality inspections and ensure construction works meet the required standards.
• Assist in resolving technical queries and coordinating solutions with the design team.
• Ensure compliance with site health and safety procedures and promote a safe working environment.

Requirements & Experience

• Relevant qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering or a related discipline.
• Previous experience working as a Site Engineer or Setting-Out Engineer within the construction industry.
• Strong experience carrying out setting-out duties on building or civil engineering projects.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings and technical specifications.
• Experience using Total Stations, GPS equipment and other surveying instruments.
• Good understanding of construction methods, building regulations and health and safety requirements.
• Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a wider site team.
• Good attention to detail and a proactive approach to resolving site issues.
• Previous experience working on commercial, educational, residential or public-sector construction projects.
• Experience with reinforced concrete, foundations, structural steelwork and groundworks.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD and other relevant engineering software.
• Experience preparing as-built surveys and maintaining site documentation.
