Job summary

Glanua in Ireland is seeking a Senior Automation & Controls Engineer to lead PLC, HMI and SCADA delivery for water and wastewater projects across Ireland and the UK, including greenfield plants and major upgrades.

You will own the automation/EC&I package, mentor junior engineers, manage System Integrators and panel builders, ensure FAT/SAT, and deliver robust control solutions with a strong emphasis on safety, quality and sustainability.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in automation, ICA, I&C or control systems engineering in utilities/water sectors
• Degree in Automation, Control & Instrumentation or related
• Proven PLC experience on major platforms (Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider or Mitsubishi)
• Proven SCADA experience (AVEVA, Ignition, Iconics) and HMI development
• On-site commissioning track record for automated control systems
• Experience with industrial protocols (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Profibus, Modbus)
• Experience managing IT/OT suppliers and design reviews
• Strong written and verbal English and client-facing communication
• Experience coordinating multiple engineers and subcontractors

Responsibilities

• Lead functional design of PLC architecture and control networks for water/wastewater plants
• Develop FDS and SDS from client control philosophies and design briefs
• Build and test PLC code on major platforms
• Design and develop SCADA applications for complete plants
• Configure and commission VSDs and field devices
• Provide technical guidance to delivery teams during design, implementation and testing
• Lead FAT/SAT documentation and site handover
• Plan engineering tasks to meet time, cost and quality targets
• Mentor junior engineers and coordinate with SI partners
• Ensure HSQE standards and CPD requirements are met
• Identify opportunities to apply AI tools to improve efficiency and quality
