Job summary

Unum Technology Centre in Carlow, Ireland, seeks a Senior Software Engineer - ServiceNow to lead the enterprise ServiceNow CMDB architecture, governance and modernization efforts. You will steer ITOM Discovery, Service Mapping, MID Server management, and integration with Workday, AWS, MuleSoft, and Dynatrace to enable data-driven decisions across the business.

Qualifications

• Strong ServiceNow CMDB, configuration management, and ITOM capabilities.

• Experience integrating ServiceNow with enterprise platforms (Workday, AWS, MuleSoft, Dynatrace, Tenable).

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical lead for the enterprise ServiceNow CMDB, driving architecture and governance.
• Lead CMDB modernization, data quality initiatives, and CMDB adoption.
• Design, develop, and maintain ServiceNow CMDB solutions and CI models.
• Lead ITOM Discovery and Service Mapping activities, including MID Server management and tuning.
• Design and support integrations between ServiceNow and Workday, AWS, MuleSoft, and other systems.
• Support CMDB data integration with APM and TBM platforms.
• Develop ServiceNow automations, workflows, configurations, and enhancements.
• Partner with infrastructure and security teams to ensure scalable, secure solutions.
• Provide technical leadership, code reviews, and mentorship in Agile teams.
• Participate in Agile planning, estimation, and solution design.

Unum Technology Centre in Carlow serves as a strategic software development and IT services centre supporting Unum, a leading provider of income protection in the US. Our team of IT professionals build solutions and critical business applications to digitally transform the way we do business.

The Senior Software Engineer - ServiceNow will provide technical leadership for Unum’s ServiceNow platform, with a focus on Configuration Management, ITOM Discovery, Service Mapping, enterprise integrations, and data governance. This role will play a central part in a multi-year initiative to align ServiceNow with CSDM 5, improve service visibility and data quality, and integrate with strategic platforms including Application Portfolio Management (APM) and Technology Business Management (TBM) solutions.

Working closely with Infrastructure, Cloud, Security, Architecture, and Application teams, this individual will design and implement scalable ServiceNow solutions, optimize Discovery and Service Mapping capabilities, and establish trusted technology and service relationships that support operational resilience, compliance, and business decision-making across the enterprise

The Role

• Serve as the technical lead for the enterprise ServiceNow CMDB, driving architecture, governance, and continuous improvement.


• Lead CMDB modernization efforts, including CSDM 5 alignment, data quality initiatives, and CMDB adoption.


• Design, develop, and maintain ServiceNow CMDB solutions, CI models, and relationship mappings.


• Lead ITOM Discovery and Service Mapping activities, including MID Server management, discovery tuning, troubleshooting, and optimization.


• Design and support integrations between ServiceNow and enterprise platforms, including Workday, AWS, MuleSoft, Dynatrace, Tenable, monitoring tools, and other strategic systems.


• Support integration of CMDB data with Application Portfolio Management (APM) and Technology Business Management (TBM) platforms.


• Develop ServiceNow automations, workflows, configurations, custom applications, and platform enhancements.


• Partner with infrastructure, security, cloud, architecture, and application teams to establish a trusted system of record for enterprise technology services.


• Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, and aligned with enterprise architecture standards and best practices.


• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, code reviews, and guidance to engineers across the team.


• Participate in Agile planning, estimation, solution design, testing, and continuous improvement activities.

What you offer

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent relevant experience.


• 6+ years of software engineering experience with ServiceNow development and platform engineering.


• Strong experience with ServiceNow CMDB, Configuration Management, and ITOM capabilities.


• Hands‑on experience with ITOM Discovery, Service Mapping, MID Servers, and Discovery troubleshooting.


• Experience implementing and supporting CSDM, preferably CSDM 5 or later.


• Experience improving CMDB governance, reconciliation, data quality, and operational adoption.


• Experience building and supporting integrations with enterprise platforms such as Workday, AWS, MuleSoft, Dynatrace, Tenable, and other cloud and operational systems.


• Experience with APM, TBM, ITSM, ITOM, ITAM, or related ServiceNow modules preferred.


• Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure, cloud platforms, application architectures, and technology dependencies.


• Experience working in Agile delivery environments.


• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.


• Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives and influence cross‑functional teams.


• Experience mentoring software engineers and providing technical leadership within an Agile team.


• Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, testing, automation, CI/CD, and secure development principles.
