Job summary

SSO Personnel in Kerry is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to oversee commercial management of construction projects. You will ensure sound cost control, commercial performance and profitability from inception to completion, reporting to the Head of Quantity Surveying.

Minimum 5 years of commercial experience in construction, preferably with a main contractor, with strong cost planning, procurement, and contract administration skills.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years' commercial experience within the construction sector, ideally working with a main contractor.
  • Strong background in building and fit-out projects, with experience across a range of contract forms.
  • Excellent commercial judgement and experience managing client relationships.
  • Good knowledge of civil engineering and infrastructure-related projects.

Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed cost plans, budgets, estimates, and tender submissions for a variety of construction projects.
  • Carry out accurate quantity measurement and cost forecasting to support effective project planning.
  • Manage procurement activities, including sourcing subcontractors and suppliers, evaluating tenders, negotiating agreements, and ensuring compliance with company procedures.
  • Oversee contract administration, reviewing contractual obligations, assessing variations, and managing claims throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Track project expenditure and financial performance while implementing commercial controls to maintain budget targets.
  • Work closely with project and design teams to identify opportunities for cost savings and improved value without compromising quality.
  • Provide mentoring and support to junior commercial staff, encouraging knowledge sharing and professional development.
  • Maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers, resolving commercial matters efficiently and professionally.
  • Stay informed on industry developments, market trends, and changes to relevant legislation and regulations.

Salary: Up to €90,000 + Benefits Package

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Head of Quantity Surveying, the successful candidate will play a key role in overseeing the commercial and financial management of construction projects. The focus of the position is to ensure sound cost control, commercial performance, and project profitability from inception through to completion.

Candidate Profile
  • Minimum of 5 years' commercial experience within the construction sector, ideally working with a main contractor.

  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to achieve positive commercial outcomes.
  • Capable of working independently whilst also contributing effectively within a team environment.
  • Highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and changing demands.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and meeting tight project deadlines.
  • Positive, proactive approach with a commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Comprehensive understanding of construction contracts, procurement strategies, and cost management principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to build and maintain professional relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Eligible to work in Ireland.
  • Full EU Driving Licence required.
