Job summary

SMBC is seeking a Senior Python Engineer to join its Risk Technology group in a hybrid role based in Tralee. You will drive development of software applications, analyze requirements, and work with data-driven approaches to modernize technology across the Americas division.

You will report to the Executive Director of Risk Technology and collaborate with IT, product managers, and front-end teams to deliver scalable solutions and improved processes.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software development experience in the required technologies.
• Strong background in scalable Core Python applications.
• Hands-on with Python web frameworks (Django/Flask/FastAPI).
• Solid SQL skills for analytics tasks and queries.
• Experience with JavaScript technologies (React).
• Familiarity with Azure Databricks and PySpark notebooks.
• Experience with Azure components (Functions, App Service, Containers).
• Financial services experience in Risk Technology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Create technical specifications for applications based on business requirements.
• Document code changes and application workflows, definitions and troubleshooting steps.
• Ensure logging and updates to the code repository.
• Participate in testing and QA of developed code.
• Resolve bugs and optimize code for performance.
• Review application performance and identify bottlenecks for improvements.
• Coordinate with business teams and IT to meet requirements.
• Collaborate with architects, DBAs and cyber security for backend needs.
• Work with UI/UX and front-end teams to optimize user experience.
• Coordinate with other teams for integration with the larger software ecosystem.
