Job summary

MCS Group is supporting an established business across the UK and Ireland to hire a Senior Software Engineer who will own the core software platform. The role suits hands-on developers who enjoy solving technical problems and influencing product evolution.

You'll work with a modern TypeScript stack (Node.js/NestJS backend, React admin portal, Next.js customer site) on AWS. Initially, you will collaborate with an external partner to bring development capability in-house and help establish

Qualifications

• 5+ years' relevant software development experience
• Strong TypeScript, Node.js/NestJS and React/Next.js skills
• Experience with AWS and infrastructure as code (AWS CDK)
• Strong MySQL knowledge incl. schema design and performance
• Experience integrating third-party APIs and payments/identity services
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD and security practices
• Hands-on AI-assisted development workflows (Claude Code) and testing
• Ability to work independently and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical colleagues

Responsibilities

• Developing new features across backend services and frontend applications
• Maintaining APIs, MySQL databases and third-party integrations
• Improving performance, accessibility, reliability, and customer experience
• Supporting real-time functionality and content delivery
• Collaborating with partner to transfer knowledge and build internal ownership
• Contributing to CI/CD pipelines and AWS infrastructure via code
• Monitoring production services with focus on security and maintainability
• Using AI-assisted development tools in planning, implementation, testing, review and docs
• Working with product and ops to understand requirements and deliver improvements
