Job summary

Medforce Healthcare Recruitment is seeking a Senior Occupational Therapist for a North Dublin child and family services team. You will provide high-quality OT assessment, intervention, and clinical leadership to support children and young people with complex needs.

Job description

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Occupational Therapist to join a Child and Family Services team based in North Dublin.

The successful candidate will provide high-quality Occupational Therapy assessment, intervention and clinical leadership to support children and young people with a range of developmental, functional and complex needs.

Working within a multidisciplinary environment, the Senior Occupational Therapist will collaborate closely with children, families, carers, schools and other professionals to promote independence, participation and positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Occupational Therapist will:

• Provide comprehensive Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention to children and young people.
• Assess developmental, functional, sensory and occupational needs.
• Develop and review individualised intervention programmes.
• Establish meaningful goals in partnership with children and their families.
• Provide clinical guidance and support to Occupational Therapy colleagues.
• Support the allocation and prioritisation of Occupational Therapy referrals and caseloads.
• Promote evidence-based and family-centred Occupational Therapy practice.
• Provide advice and intervention relating to:
• Activities of daily living
• Fine motor and functional skills
• Sensory processing and regulation
• Play and participation
• Equipment and environmental adaptations
• Assistive technology
• Independence and functional development
• Liaise with schools, education professionals and other relevant services.
• Participate actively in multidisciplinary assessment, case discussions and care planning.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
• Contribute to clinical governance, audit and quality improvement.
• Support service development and the implementation of best practice.
• Participate in clinical supervision and continuing professional development.

Clinical Leadership

The Senior Occupational Therapist will play an important role in supporting the development of Occupational Therapy services.

Responsibilities may include:

• Providing supervision and support to Staff Grade Occupational Therapists and students.
• Supporting colleagues with complex clinical presentations.
• Contributing to peer supervision and reflective practice.
• Promoting consistent standards of Occupational Therapy practice.
• Supporting the development of clinical pathways and resources.
• Contributing to service planning and quality improvement initiatives.
• Acting as a source of clinical expertise within the multidisciplinary team.

Family-Centred Practice

The service places children and families at the centre of intervention.

The successful candidate will:

• Work collaboratively with children and young people to understand their priorities and goals.
• Recognise parents and carers as key partners in intervention.
• Use a strengths-based approach.
• Provide practical strategies that can be incorporated into everyday routines.
• Promote independence and participation at home, in education and in the community.
• Support families to understand their child's occupational needs.
• Review intervention and outcomes collaboratively.

Multidisciplinary Working

You will work closely with a range of professionals, which may include:

• Occupational Therapists
• Social Workers
• Physiotherapists
• Speech and Language Therapists
• Nurses
• Medical professionals
• Education professionals
• Other child and family support services

The ability to contribute effectively to multidisciplinary decision-making and communicate clearly with colleagues and families will be essential.

Applicants must:

• Hold a recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy.
• Be registered with CORU as an Occupational Therapist or be eligible for registration.
• Have significant post-qualification experience relevant to the role.
• Demonstrate experience of working with children and young people.
• Demonstrate strong clinical assessment and intervention skills.
• Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Demonstrate strong organisational and caseload-management skills.
• Have experience of supporting or supervising colleagues.
• Demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based and family-centred practice.
