Job summary

Murphy is recruiting a Mechanical Project Manager for its Energy and Industry team in Cork, Ireland. The role involves tender input, project delivery, and commissioning of mechanical systems in energy, data centre, and regulated pharmaceutical environments.

The candidate should have 8+ years in mechanical engineering or project management, with strong leadership, QA/QC, and stakeholder management across multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 8 years’ relevant experience in a Mechanical Engineering or Project Management role, preferably within energy, life sciences, data centre, pharmaceutical, industrial facilities, or gas sectors.
• Proven experience in regulated or high-compliance environments with QA/QC requirements and quality management systems.
• Experience managing mechanical commissioning, project turnover and handover activities, including documentation and transition to operations.
• Proven track record delivering multidisciplinary projects safely, on time, within budget and to required quality standards.
• Strong experience in project planning, scheduling, resource allocation, cost control, risk management and change management.
• Experience leading and coordinating multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and subcontractors within live operational environments.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with clients, operational teams, and senior management.
• Strong commercial awareness including budget management, forecasting, cost reporting and performance monitoring.
• Commitment to high standards of health, safety, environmental and quality compliance.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
• Strong leadership, problem-solving and decision-making skills with continuous improvement focus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate daily project activities to ensure safe, efficient, and successful delivery of works.
• Manage site teams, supervisors, engineers, contractors and subcontractors to achieve project objectives.
• Monitor progress against milestones and implement corrective actions.
• Chair project meetings and provide regular progress updates to clients and stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, quality and contractual requirements.
• Oversee labour, plant, materials and equipment to support delivery and productivity.
• Review and approve work packs, method statements, risk assessments and project documentation.
• Manage project budgets, cost tracking, forecasting and change control processes.
• Identify, assess and mitigate project risks, issues and potential delays.
• Develop work package pricing documentation and agree commercial terms with clients.
• Coordinate engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover activities.
• Develop and maintain relationships with clients, suppliers, contractors and stakeholders.
• Ensure records and documentation are maintained accurately and timely.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives and promote best practices.
• Support project close-out including final documentation and lessons learned.
