Job summary

JAM is seeking a senior HV engineer for its Dublin Power team to design and own HV/EHV substations and grid development projects (110kV–400kV), reviewing layouts, earthing, interlocking and technical specs.

You’ll contribute across the full lifecycle from feasibility through to commissioning, including BESS, HVDC and smart-grid work, with hybrid working from Dublin and support for Chartered status and CPD.

Qualifications

• HV substation design experience (132kV–400kV) and familiarity with Irish/UK T&D
• Degree in engineering; Chartered status or working towards it preferred
• Ability to lead technical workstreams and interact with clients

Responsibilities

• Design and owner’s engineering of HV/EHV substations and grid projects (110kV–400kV)
• Review layouts, earthing, interlocking, busbar calculations and technical specs
• Provide design assurance and contestable specification packs (SLDs, schematics, layouts)
• Offer expert input on HV cables, stations and OHL
• Contribute across feasibility to commissioning, including BESS, HVDC and smart-grid work

Job description

Ireland is in the middle of the biggest grid build-out in its history. PR6 has approved €13.8bn for the electricity networks over 2026–2030, which could rise to €18.9bn, and that covers 500+ capital projects including 29 major onshore transmission schemes.

My client is a global engineering consultancy right at the centre of it. They hold a lead role on EirGrid’s new five-year Engineering Design, Planning & PM Framework, and their Dublin Power team is growing. They now need a senior HV engineer.

What you’ll be doing:

• Design and owner’s engineering of HV/EHV substations and grid development projects (110kV–400kV)
• Reviewing layouts, earthing, interlocking, busbar calcs and technical specs
• Design assurance and contestable specification packs (SLDs, schematics, layouts)
• Giving expert input on HV cables, stations and OHL
• Working across the full project lifecycle, from feasibility through to commissioning, including BESS, HVDC and smart-grid work

What you’ll bring:

• HV substation design experience at 132kV–400kV, ideally in Irish and UK T&D
• Strong familiarity with EirGrid and ESB Networks standards
• A degree, and ideally Chartered status or working towards it
• Confidence leading technical workstreams and dealing with clients
• Bonus points for AIS/GIS specification, CDEGS, ETAP, OHL or 110kV+ cable design, or P&C.
