Senior Electrical Engineer (HV)

Location: Dublin, Ireland | Project: County Kildare

The Opportunity - Senior Electrical Engineer

I'm working with an international General Contractor looking to appoint a Senior Electrical Engineer (HV) to support the growth of its engineering department and deliver a major €400m industrial expansion project in Ireland.

The project involves the second phase of Diageo's Littleconnell brewery development in County Kildare, dedicated to brewing Guinness and Guinness 0%. This is a significant capital investment, offering the opportunity to contribute to a large-scale project with complex electrical infrastructure requirements and access to a long-term pipeline of mission‑critical projects.

As a Senior Electrical Engineer (HV), you'll take technical ownership of high‑voltage electrical systems throughout the project lifecycle, from early‑stage feasibility and detailed design through construction, testing, commissioning, energisation and final handover.

This position would suit an experienced HV engineer with a strong technical background in substations, grid connections and power infrastructure, who is comfortable coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing technical interfaces across complex engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities - Senior Electrical Engineer

As the Senior Electrical Engineer (HV), your responsibilities will include:

• Leading HV engineering activities across substations and transmission and distribution networks.
• Managing HV design and coordinating with multidisciplinary EPC teams.
• Reviewing designs for compliance with statutory requirements, standards and project specifications.
• Coordinating in-house engineers and third‑party designers.
• Developing procurement specifications, supporting OEM selection and reviewing vendor packages.
• Reviewing and approving technical submittals and vendor documentation.
• Supporting procurement, FATs, SATs, commissioning and energisation.
• Carrying out technical inspections and supporting QA/QC, ITPs and handover documentation.
• Overseeing the transition from design through construction, commissioning and handover.
• Supporting operator training and familiarisation.
• Driving continuous improvement of engineering policies, procedures and processes.

Key Success Factors - Senior Electrical Engineer

• A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• A minimum of five years' experience delivering high‑voltage electrical infrastructure projects.
• Strong technical knowledge of HV substations and grid connections, including switchgear, transformers, control and protection systems, earthing and lightning protection.
• Experience working across voltage levels ranging from 10kV to 400kV.
• A strong understanding of HV system design, installation, testing, commissioning and energisation.
