Job summary

Collen Construction seeks a Senior Estimator to lead tender bids across all sectors. Based in our Dublin office, you will tender for projects across Ireland, the UK and Europe, coordinating with the Estimating Team and senior stakeholders to produce competitive priced tenders.

The role requires a third level QS qualification and 10+ years in a similar role, with strong budgeting, cost planning and risk management skills, and the ability to drive procurement and pre-tender activities to tight

Qualifications

• Third level qualification in Quantity Surveying.
• 10+ years’ experience in a similar role.

Responsibilities

• Manage the tender bid from receipt of tender enquiry to submission of final bid.
• Manage and co-ordinate a team on large bids.
• Inspect tender documents including bills of quantities, specifications, contracts, etc.
• Prepare tender enquiries for issue to the market with Estimating Team.
• Work within procurement strategy and collate quotes for priced tender.
• Conduct risk identification, value management and cost control.
• Meet with stakeholders and subcontractors during the tender period.
• Develop standard prelim allowances for inclusion in the priced tender.
• Determine site logistics and prelim allowances with Bid/Contracts/Operations teams.
• Prepare budgets and cost plans analogous to priced tenders.
• Present priced tender to the Board of Directors at adjudication.
• Prepare for pre/post tender meetings.
• Maintain awareness of different building contracts and H&S implications.
• Prepare tenders with minimal oversight while meeting deadlines.
• Prepare project handover file and present to project team.

Job description

Collen are seeking to recruit an experienced Senior Estimator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for tendering projects across all sectors of the industry. They will be based in the Dublin office, while tendering for projects across regions in Ireland / UK / Europe.

Key requirements include:

• Third level qualification in Quantity Surveying
• 10+ years’ experience in a similar role

Reporting to the Estimating Director, your key responsibilities will include:

• Managing the tender bid from receipt of tender enquiry to submission of final bid
• Manage and Co-ordinate a team on large bids
• Undertaking careful inspection of tender documents including bills of quantities, specifications, contract etc
• Working closely with the Estimating Team in the preparation of tender enquiries for issue to the market
• Working within the agreed procurement strategy
• Collating quotes for comparison and selection for inclusion in the priced tender
• Conducting risk identification, value management and cost control
• Meeting with key stakeholders and subcontractors throughout the tender period
• Developing standard prelim allowances for inclusion in the priced tender
• Working closely with the Bid and Contracts Managers and wider Operations Team to determine site logistics and prelim allowances
• Preparing budgets and cost plans in a similar manner to priced tenders
• Presenting the priced tender to the Board of Directors at adjudication stage
• Preparing for pre / post tender meetings
• Maintaining awareness of the different building contracts in current use; and assessing the implications of health and safety regulations
• The ability to prepare tenders with little oversight while meeting strict deadlines
• Preparing a project handover file and presenting to the project team.

Strong time management and communication skills are essential to this role, as well as computer literacy and the ability to prepare reports and administer the necessary paperwork.
