Job summary

Murphy is recruiting a Senior Engineer to work on nationwide energy and industry projects across Ireland. The role focuses on health, safety and environmental leadership, supervising engineers, and overseeing temporary works, material procurement, and site coordination.

The candidate will mentor staff, ensure quality drawings and specs, and maintain strong client relations while upholding company policies and procedures. Strong CAD and surveying skills are essential.

Qualifications

• CSCS card or equivalent competency certifications.
• 6–8 years on large site civil engineering projects.
• Strong knowledge of concrete, earthworks and civils.
• Temporary works experience (TW Supervisor/Coordinator).
• Ability to lead, manage and mentor junior staff.
• Proven ability to implement safe construction procedures.
• Proficient in modern surveying and CAD techniques.

Responsibilities

What you will be doing:

• Establish and promote best practice in health, safety and environmental matters in conjunction with the SHQE department.
• Supervise assistant and site engineers and advise engineers on setting out methods and techniques.
• Assist with temporary works design schemes.
• Take a personal interest in identifying, coaching and developing key staff.
• Monitor the work under their control to ensure that any unsafe work conditions and non‑compliance with Company policies and procedures are promptly remedied.
• Maintain good working relations with client / designer / Team, together with our supply chain.
• Ensure that the drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works. Formally request any missing information in sufficient time to allow the programme to proceed without delay.
• Communicate with foremen and supervisors to ensure full understanding of information provided.
• Oversee the selection and requisition of materials and plant for the use in the construction process.
• Prepare written risk assessments and method statements for the control of the works.
• Keep a full and accurate daily site diary, including any changes/variations, subcontractors’ attendance, and records of work related discussions with client / designer / project team.
• Ensure that inspection and test plans are completed as required by the PMP / Specification, including a check of dimension accuracy and quality.

Who we are looking for:

• Relevant CSCS card and competency skills certifications.
• 6–8 years’ proven experience on large, site based civil engineering projects.
• Strong knowledge of reinforced concrete, deep drainage, earthworks, traffic management and general civils.
• Temporary works experience (TW Supervisor or TW Coordinator).
• Ability to lead, manage and mentor junior engineering staff.
• Skilled in producing and implementing safe systems of work and construction procedures.
• Proficient in modern surveying and CAD techniques.

Excellent communication skills with solid understanding of commercial, legislative, H&S and environmental requirements
