Job summary

BAM is recruiting a Senior Engineer for a project based in Carlow. The role requires delivering construction/civils/logistics operations with strong leadership, communication and cost control.

You will manage budgets, schedules, and documentation, while enforcing QMS and SMS on site. Opportunities for career growth and professional development are offered within BAM’s large Irish/UK portfolio.

Qualifications

  • Degree, HND, HNC (or equivalent) in Construction/Engineering/Logistics.
  • Proven track record in delivering construction/civils/logistics operations.
  • Strong management of employees and teams with commercial awareness.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare programme and working budget with your manager.
  • Identify and analyse problem areas and develop strategies, implementing solutions.
  • Manage contract documentation and ensure timely information flow.
  • Monitor outputs, costs and progress against budget weekly.
  • Procure and manage subcontractors and suppliers in coordination with the PQS.
  • Implement QMS on site and ensure Site Quality Plan compliance.
  • Review and approve temporary works methods per Company procedures.

Making Possible
  • Prepare programme and working budget with your manager: synchronise with labour and plant budgets, decide critical path & ensure day-to-day activities are prioritised and planned.
  • Identify and analyse problem areas/activities – particularly those with cost or program implications - develop strategies and alternatives, and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Manage the flow of information and documentation. Ensure all documentation relevant to the Contract (technical, financial contractual, and administrative) is prepared in a timely manner. Ensure effective systems exist for the tracking of dockets, the approval of labour & plant allocation sheets, etc.
  • Check outputs, quantities, critical activities and costs on a weekly basis (costs vs. budget re labour, plant, material, sub-contractors and day-works). Give feedback to Tendering dept. on actual outputs.
  • Manage the project cash flow in conjunction with the PQS and your manager. Be guided by the Commercial Procedures Manual.
  • Report monthly on progress vs. programme, cost vs. budget, cost vs. value, cost to completion, variations, delays, and any other problem issues. Ensure the MCRR is prepared on time.
  • Procure, negotiate and let subcontract and supplier packages in conjunction with the PQS, your manager and purchasing department where appropriate. Enforce the ‘calling off ’ of materials.
  • Implement the Company’s Quality Management System [QMS] on site. Ensure that the Site Quality Plan is developed from the QMS and that all personnel on site, including subcontractors personnel, are fully aware of their requirements and that they operate the system effectively.
  • Implement the Company’s Safety Management System [SMS]. Ensure that the Site Safety Plan is developed from the SMS and that all personnel on site, including subcontractors personnel, are fully aware of their requirements and that they operate the system effectively.
  • Review and approve temporary works methods. Implement in accordance with the Company Temporary Works Procedures.
