Job summary

Gilder Search Group is assisting a public sector body in Cork to recruit a Senior Energy Project Manager. The role focuses on delivering large-scale energy retrofit and decarbonisation programmes, with oversight of planning, procurement, and execution.

This 1-year rolling contract offers a 35-hour week, 30 days’ leave, and hybrid working. You will coordinate design teams, contractors, and energy performance specialists to ensure projects meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

  • Level 8 QQI-accredited degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or membership of Engineers Ireland.
  • Minimum 7 years’ post-qualification experience in design, project management, and construction, or in installation/maintenance of mechanical and/or electrical building services.
  • Strong technical knowledge with proven project management and leadership capability.
  • Competence, professionalism, and organisational skills to deliver on the role’s responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of large-scale energy retrofit and decarbonisation programmes, including pilot and national rollout projects.
  • Manage end-to-end project delivery: planning, resourcing, procurement, and execution of capital works.
  • Procure and oversee design teams, technical advisors, contractors, and energy performance specialists.
  • Coordinate multiple stakeholders to ensure successful programme delivery.
  • Develop and implement project briefs, tender documentation, and procurement strategies in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Manage timelines, budgets, risks, and reporting to deliver quality and performance.
  • Support the development and implementation of energy efficiency and carbon reduction strategies across the estate.
  • Provide technical guidance on energy performance and sustainable design.
  • Oversee maintenance, minor capital works, and lifecycle planning for buildings.
  • Promote best practices in energy management, sustainability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety and statutory requirements.

Job description

Our client, a public sector body, are seeking a Senior Energy Project Manager to join their team in Cork.

This function delivers a broad range of technical, project management, and advisory services in relation to the procurement, development, operation, and maintenance of large-scale infrastructure and facilities.

The team is responsible for the design, specification, procurement, and delivery of capital projects, including new builds and refurbishments, as well as asset management, property services, and health & safety compliance across a diverse estate.

This is an initial 1 year rolling contract, with the possibility for further extension.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health & safety, regulatory, and statutory requirements.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and contribute to strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
  • Hold a Level 8 (or higher) QQI-accredited degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, accredited by Engineers Ireland (or an equivalent qualification), or hold membership of Engineers Ireland.
  • Have a minimum of 7 years’ relevant post-qualification experience, including experience in design, project management, and construction, or in the installation and maintenance of mechanical and/or electrical building services.
  • Demonstrate strong technical knowledge, along with proven project management and leadership capability.
  • Possess the competence, professionalism, and organisational skills required to successfully deliver on the responsibilities of the role.
