Job summary

Electricity Supply Board is seeking a Senior Professional Electrical Engineer to join the Project & Design Group within Generation Engineering Delivery in Dublin. You will lead end-to-end electrical projects, specify and verify designs, and coordinate across teams to meet decarbonisation targets.

The role emphasizes owner’s engineering, technical assurance and asset support for ESB’s generation portfolio, with hybrid working arrangements and a flexible workplace across Dublin and Cork locations.

Qualifications

• Primary Degree in Electrical Engineering (Level 8 NFQ or above) or equivalent relevant work experience.
• Minimum five years’ experience in the electricity sector or similar industry with experience in conventional/renewable power generation, BESS, HV/MV distribution, grid connections and compliance.
• Experience in specification, design, commissioning, operation or maintenance of electrical power systems in generation, transmission, distribution or large industrial facilities.
• Chartered Engineer status or progress towards Chartered Engineer status.
• Knowledge of ETAP or similar Power System Studies software.

Responsibilities

• Provide electrical engineering expertise in specification, design, integration, testing and commissioning of electrical systems including generators, transformers, HV/MV switchgear, protection and control systems, auxiliary power systems and grid connection infrastructure.
• Manage electrical projects end-to-end from scoping and design through procurement, installation, commissioning and handover.
• Prepare technical specifications, evaluate tenders, and ensure compliance with Irish and ESB standards for quality, safety and reliability.
• Oversee safety, environmental requirements during construction and commissioning, including risk assessments and method statements.
• Coordinate engineering inputs across multidisciplinary teams for integration with project requirements.
• Support team operations through task coordination, stakeholder engagement, project budget management, mentoring junior engineers and governance/reporting.
• Support electrical studies coordination (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, protection coordination, Grid Code).
