Job summary

Silent-Aire in Dublin is seeking a Senior Building Services Engineer to lead modular data centre solutions and own Descriptions of Operation from concept to commissioning. You will drive off-site manufacturing, energy efficiency, and system reliability for mission-critical environments.

You will collaborate with BIM, controls, manufacturing, commissioning, and project delivery to ensure project objectives are met and best practices are embedded in engineering standards.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Building Services Engineering or related discipline.
• Significant experience delivering MEP systems in mission-critical environments.
• Experience with modular/off-site manufactured solutions is a plus.
• Proven track record developing DoO, control philosophies, and operational narratives.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management across multidisciplinary teams.

What you will do

As a Senior Building Services Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping the next generation of Modular Data Centre (MDC) solutions. Working within our Modular Design Engineering team, you will provide technical leadership across the full project lifecycle, from early-stage concept development through detailed design, factory manufacture, testing, commissioning, and site integration.

You will be responsible for developing innovative, high-performance building services solutions that meet the demanding requirements of mission-critical environments. A key aspect of the role will be the ownership and development of Descriptions of Operation (DoO), ensuring engineering designs are translated into safe, reliable, and fully operable systems that perform as intended.

How you will do it

Building Services & Modular Design

• Lead the design and delivery of mechanical and electrical building services systems for modular data centre solutions.
• Develop engineering designs from concept through to detailed design, supporting efficient off-site manufacturing and seamless site integration.
• Ensure solutions meet performance, resilience, sustainability, and energy-efficiency requirements.
• Produce, review, and approve calculations, schematics, layouts, technical specifications, and design documentation.
• Drive engineering best practice and provide technical guidance to internal stakeholders throughout the design process.

Descriptions of Operation (DoO) & Control Strategies

• Develop, maintain, and take ownership of Descriptions of Operation (DoO) for modular data centre systems.
• Define system functionality, control strategies, sequences of operation, interlocks, alarms, and failure responses.
• Ensure operational documentation aligns with P&IDs, controls architecture, BMS point schedules, I/O lists, and commissioning procedures.
• Act as the technical authority for operational narratives, supporting controls integration, factory acceptance testing, and commissioning activities.

Project Delivery & Stakeholder Collaboration

• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including BIM, controls, manufacturing, commissioning, and project delivery functions.
• Engage with clients, consultants, and equipment vendors to review designs, resolve technical challenges, and ensure project objectives are achieved.
• Support factory testing, commissioning activities, and site integration to verify performance and operational readiness.
• Provide technical leadership, contributing to continuous improvement and the ongoing development of modular engineering standards.

What we look for

• Degree qualified in Building Services Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Significant experience delivering MEP systems within mission-critical, data centre, pharmaceutical, or similarly complex environments.
• Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical building services design, system integration, and operational performance.
• Experience working on modular, prefabricated, or off-site manufactured solutions would be a distinct advantage.
• Proven track record of developing Descriptions of Operation, control philosophies, and operational narratives for complex engineered systems.
• Ability to translate technical design intent into clear, structured, and effective operational documentation.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the confidence to make informed engineering decisions and provide technical leadership.
