Job summary

Toast in Dublin is seeking an experienced backend engineer to own end-to-end growth-focused services. You will build and operate backend systems powering in-product experiences, targeting adoption and upsell, with a strong emphasis on scalable architectures.

The role is hybrid, requiring two in-office days per week in our Dublin office. You'll collaborate with product, design, marketing, sales operations, and data science to translate business goals into measurable experiments and robust

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building and maintaining production backend systems in Kotlin, Java, or another OO language.
• Ability to own features end-to-end from design through launch, measurement, and iteration.
• Product-minded builder who makes product calls and collaborates with PM, design, and sales.
• Experience with experimentation, A/B testing, or growth engineering and attribution.

Responsibilities

• Drive end-to-end development of backend services powering in-product growth experiences.
• Build shared infrastructure to enable cheaper, faster experiments across teams.
• Integrate with systems that services depend on (billing, provisioning, CMS) to enable purchases inside the product.
• Develop and operate LLM-powered experiences and evaluate their impact.
• Design instrumentation for experimentation and attribution to measure impact.
