Job summary

Phorest seeks a Senior Backend Engineer to shape the next generation of PhorestPay checkout. You will own backend domains, steer scalable architecture and collaborate with product and design to deliver reliable payment experiences for salons.

This role values leadership, cross-team collaboration and a pragmatic approach to complex problems. You will work on distributed systems, payment flows, and data modelling while mentoring engineers and promoting test-driven development.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience.
• Strong backend experience with scalable systems.
• Experience leading technical initiatives and influencing architecture.
• Proficient in Java, Kotlin or TypeScript.
• Experience with payments or fintech is a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Own key backend systems and technical domains within Pay, shaping architecture and evolution.
• Design and deliver complex backend solutions, including distributed systems and RESTful APIs.
• Break down ambiguous problems, identify risks, dependencies and bottlenecks.
• Collaborate with Product, Design and engineering to plan and trade off reliability, maintainability and value.
• Lead cross-team technical initiatives and communicate decisions clearly.
