Job summary

Jobgether is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Backend - Data Layer for a senior role based in Ireland. You will design and evolve storage, query, and data-processing capabilities across relational databases and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, shaping a scalable data layer for an AI-driven enterprise platform.

You will own major engineering initiatives from design to delivery, working with Product, QA, Support, and SRE in a distributed, remote-first environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of backend experience with production data stores.
• Deep experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, or MSSQL.
• Strong hands-on Elasticsearch/OpenSearch experience including indexing and query tuning.
• Ability to analyze slow queries and root-cause production data issues.
• Proven track record leading medium-to-large engineering initiatives.
• Strong understanding of backend architecture and production-scale systems.
• Excellent communication in a distributed, remote-first environment.
• Ability to translate product requirements into technical plans.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines or workflow automation is a plus.
• Familiarity with Liquibase or Flyway and live schema evolution is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and improve backend services for enterprise-scale process data.
• Develop solutions across relational databases and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch for performance and scalability.
• Own initiatives from requirements to delivery and production rollout.
• Collaborate with Product, QA, Support, and SRE to translate requirements.
• Evolve data processing, retention, storage, and exposure capabilities.
• Improve performance of secondary storage as data grows.
• Build internal tooling to monitor and operate the data layer safely.
• Investigate production data issues and drive root-cause analysis.
• Participate in L3 support and on-call rotations.
• Contribute to engineering practices and architecture in a remote-first environment.
