Job summary
Merck Gruppe - MSD Sharp & Dohme in Dublin is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to support DeltaV DCS, OEM and digital manufacturing systems for biologics. You will provide senior automation troubleshooting, technical leadership and drive continuous improvement in a regulated environment.
You will lead changes from scoping through validation, review P&IDs and control strategies, and collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Validation, IT and Digital teams to deliver compliant, reliable
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automation, Computer Science or a related technical discipline (or equivalent practical industry experience)
- 5+ years of automation or process control experience in a regulated GxP environment (biopharmaceuticals, pharmaceuticals or medical devices)
- Core Systems: DeltaV DCS and PLC/HMI/SCADA platforms (Siemens)
- Historians: OSIsoft PI
- Validation & Standards: SDLC, GAMP5; ISA-88/ISA-95 concepts
- Collaboration: strong cross-functional communication and influence across teams
- Preferred: shop-floor digital integrations (MES, ERP), cybersecurity basics; regulatory audits experience
Responsibilities
- Provide senior automation support for manufacturing systems (DeltaV DCS, OEM, historians)
- Support Launch Excellence strategy for new products at Biotech Dublin
- Troubleshoot complex automation and process control issues to support reliable operations
- Lead automation changes from scoping through implementation and closure
- Review equipment specs, P&IDs, control strategies for robust, compliant design
- Support site commissioning, qualification, validation and test activities
- Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Validation, Engineering, IT and Digital teams
- Contribute to digital transformation initiatives and data connectivity efforts
- Act as a technical role model promoting safety, compliance and continuous improvement
