SCADA Engineer

Location: Dunboyne, Co: Meath – Hybrid working model

Salary: €53,875 - €56,570(DOE)

Introduction

EMR Integrated Solutions is a leading provider of communications, SCADA and instrumentation solutions. Working with industrial sectors as diverse as water, power, utilities, corporate business, broadcasting and public safety organisations, we have a track record stretching back to the early 1980s and a management team with a wealth of industry experience.

Overview of role

This role is suited to an Electrical, Automation, Computer or SCADA Engineer who has a strong technical background, good interpersonal skills, and can demonstrate excellent problem‑solving and analytical capability with a keen eye for detail and system design. The position will expose the candidate to many aspects of SCADA, telemetry, PLC integration and instrumentation technology. The candidate must therefore demonstrate an aptitude and enthusiasm for the design, configuration, testing, deployment and ongoing support of EMR SCADA solutions. Automation experience is desirable, particularly knowledge and practical experience of Bristol Babcock PLCs, as this would be beneficial to the role.

The Candidate

The candidate should possess excellent customer‑facing skills, work well under pressure, demonstrate a professional manner, and identify and focus on customer needs during the design, testing, deployment and ongoing support of EMR’s solutions. The successful candidate should be an innovative thinker, keen to challenge the status quo and current ways of working. The role is predominantly office‑based, with some requirement to attend site during deployment, commissioning and support phases. A major part of this role includes working with SCADA platforms, with particular focus on Ignition and ICONICS, as well as supporting the integration of SCADA systems with PLCs, RTUs, telemetry outstations and client systems. The role involves regular communication with clients during implementation and after deployment, including supporting queries, troubleshooting issues and helping ensure reliable operation of the delivered SCADA solution.

Responsibilities
  • Pre‑sales support and design of new solutions and installations.
  • Respond to customer and/or client requests and events as they occur.
  • Work with SCADA, Automation and Engineering colleagues on the implementation, testing and support of HMI, SCADA, PLC and telemetry software for new and existing projects.
  • Create SCADA software design specifications, configuration documentation and associated project records.
  • Use SCADA and HMI design software, with particular emphasis on Ignition and ICONICS, to configure, develop, test and support client SCADA applications.
  • Train clients in the use of the application once implemented.
  • Maintain consistency and quality of work throughout all projects.
  • Work effectively to deadlines.
  • Manage the maintenance of all files and licensing requirements for projects.
  • Liaise with client IT departments regarding security requirements.
  • Maintain general housekeeping across all SCADA projects.
  • Develop standards and specifications in line with customer requirements.
  • Develop standard libraries and support the production of solutions to improve future project delivery efficiency.
  • Contribute to work breakdown structures, project estimates and delivery plans for assigned SCADA engineering tasks.
Experience

Technical Skills:

  • In‑depth understanding of SCADA system architecture and components.
  • Experience with SCADA software platforms, particularly Ignition and ICONICS.
  • Experience of cloud solutions such as Azure, AWS etc.
  • Understanding of communication protocols commonly used in SCADA systems, such as Modbus, DNP3, OPC, and others.
  • Ability to interpret PLC, RTU and telemetry interfaces and support effective integration between field systems and SCADA applications.
  • Experience in SCADA systems, telemetry, HMI configuration and industrial communications.
  • Automation and PLC experience would be beneficial, with knowledge or practical experience of Bristol Babcock PLCs considered particularly advantageous.
  • Experience of using AI technologies.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Database Manager.
  • Understanding of PC Anywhere, Remote Desktop, TeamViewer.
  • Knowledge of data science and statistics.
  • Ability to use VB, SQL.
  • Knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP, and other relevant protocols used in industrial environments.
  • Awareness of cybersecurity best practices for SCADA systems.
  • Skill in designing and managing alarms within the SCADA system.
  • Full Irish Driving License as travel may be required to sites throughout Ireland.
