Job description

Introduction:

EMR Integrated Solutions is a leading provider of communications, SCADA and instrumentation solutions. Working with industrial sectors as diverse as water, power, utilities, corporate business, broadcasting and public safety organisations, we have a track record stretching back to the early 1980s and a management team with a wealth of industry experience.

Overview of role:

The role is predominantly office based, with attendance at customer sites during surveys, deployment, testing, commissioning, migration and support activities. It covers SCADA platforms, particularly Ignition and ICONICS, together with the integration of PLCs, RTUs, telemetry outstations, historians, databases, networks and client systems.

The successful candidate will work directly with customers throughout the project lifecycle, from requirements capture and presales through implementation and handover, and will provide technical escalation when significant operational issues arise. Occasional out-of-hours work may be required for planned cutovers or priority incidents and will be managed in accordance with EMR arrangements.

The Candidate:

The candidate should possess excellent customer facing skills, and work well under pressure, demonstrating a professional manner, with an ability to identify and focus on customer needs, during the design, testing, deployment and ongoing support of EMR's solutions.

Furthermore, the successful candidate should be an innovative thinker, keen to challenge the status quo and current ways of working.

The role is predominantly office based, with some requirement to attend site during deployment, commissioning and support phases. A major part of this role includes working with SCADA platforms, with particular focus on Ignition and ICONICS, as well as supporting the integration of SCADA systems with PLCs, RTUs, telemetry outstations and client systems.

The role involves regular communication with clients during implementation and after deployment, including supporting queries, troubleshooting issues and helping ensure reliable operation of the delivered SCADA solution.

Responsibilities:
  • Take technical ownership of assigned SCADA projects from requirements and presales through design, implementation, FAT, SAT, commissioning, handover and support.
  • Develop and review SCADA architectures, specifications, interface definitions, engineering estimates, delivery plans and technical risk assessments.
  • Configure, develop and review SCADA/HMI applications, particularly using Ignition and ICONICS, including graphics, tags, alarms, trends, reports, scripts and user access.
  • Lead integration with PLCs, RTUs, telemetry outstations, historians, databases, networks, cloud or enterprise interfaces and other client systems.
  • Lead technical design reviews, guide and mentor other engineers, and ensure outputs are consistent, maintainable and compliant with customer and EMR standards.
  • Plan and lead FAT, SAT, commissioning, migration and cutover activities using approved change control, backups, rollback arrangements and operational-continuity controls.
  • Lead complex fault investigation and root-cause analysis, coordinate corrective actions and embed lessons learned into future delivery.
  • Work with client IT and OT stakeholders on networking, system hardening, access control, secure remote-access, patching, backups and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Maintain effective configuration management, version control, project records, software licences and system backups.
  • Develop reusable standards, templates, libraries and productised solutions; support bids and quotations; train customers; and elevate material technical, safety, cybersecurity, cost or programme risks.
Experience:
Technical Skills
  • A relevant engineering qualification, or equivalent industry experience, with typically at least five years' SCADA or automation experience.
  • Proven end-to-end delivery of industrial SCADA/HMI projects, including independent technical responsibility for design, testing, commissioning and handover.
  • In-depth understanding of SCADA architecture, redundancy, alarming, historian services, database integration, backup and recovery.
  • Strong hands-on experience with a major SCADA platform; substantial Ignition and/or ICONICS delivery experience is strongly preferred.
  • Practical experience integrating PLCs, RTUs and telemetry, using protocols such as OPC UA/DA, Modbus TCP/RTU, DNP3 or IEC 60870-5-104, as applicable.
  • Working knowledge of industrial Ethernet, TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, firewalls, virtual private networks and approved secure remote-access methods.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), SQL queries and SCADA data structures.
  • Practical understanding of OT cybersecurity, change control, least privilege, system hardening, patching, backups and access management.
  • Experience producing and reviewing technical documentation and leading or taking a senior role in FAT, SAT, commissioning, migration or live-system cutover.
  • Bristol Babcock, utilities, cloud integration, virtualisation, Windows Server, Active Directory, IEC 62443, scripting or industrial data analytics experience would be advantageous.
  • Full driving licence and ability to attend customer sites when required.
Interpersonal Skills
  • Strong written, verbal, reporting and customer-facing communication, with the ability to lead discussions and build effective relationships.
  • Highly organised and calm under pressure, demonstrating ownership, sound judgement and proportionate escalation.
  • A collaborative mentor and innovative thinker who constructively challenges weak assumptions and balances quality, risk, programme and commercial constraints.
  • As part of our growing team, you will work alongside experienced engineers and industry specialists, gaining exposure to leading SCADA, telemetry, automation and communications technologies while contributing to projects that make a real impact.
