Job summary

Depaul is seeking Relief Workers for West Cork (Gabriel Lodge) to provide supported accommodation, food and shelter services on a shift basis across a 7-day rota. The role involves night shifts and on-site work, reporting to the Local Management Team, with a focus on safety, high-quality service and responsive care for residents.

Applicants should have at least 1 year in homelessness or a Level 5 social care qualification, with a willingness to work variable hours, including nights, and to adapt

Qualifications

• At least 1 year experience in homelessness field or related area, or a Level 5+ social care qualification.
• Manual handling qualification desirable.
• Understanding of harm reduction and low threshold working.
• Ability to respond calmly in a crisis and use initiative.
• Strong team communication and collaboration.
• Knowledge of health and safety in residential settings.

Responsibilities

• Meet the practical needs of service users (food, laundry, bedding) with staff and volunteers.
• Maintain a safe, secure environment and high service standards.
• Build trust with service users and handle difficult situations sensitively.
• Carry out duties on specific rotas and during shifts.
• Collaborate with the team and participate in shift handovers.
• Maintain necessary records for smooth service operation.
• Ensure adherence to Depaul Ireland policies, health & safety, and confidentiality.
• Uphold Depaul ethos and provide professional service, including night-time safety.
