Job summary

Greyhound Racing Ireland is seeking a Racing Support Officer for Shelbourne Park Greyhound Stadium in Dublin. This permanent, full-time position offers exposure to racing operations, regulatory compliance and commercial aspects of the greyhound industry, reporting to the Racing Manager.

You will supervise race days and trials, ensure track safety and maintenance, and contribute to welfare initiatives and event planning at the stadium.

Qualifications

  • 6 months in a demanding role with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel & Word.
  • Fluent English required for all communications.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and use initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Understand racing operations, regulations, welfare standards, and track operations.
  • Supervise race days and trials, day and night as directed by manager.
  • Oversee grounds, kennels and racing hardware to maintain safety and quality.
  • Assist in maintenance of track equipment and facilities.
  • Support planning and promotion of racing events and classics.
  • Operate grading, RMS, and electronic trials booking systems.
  • Ensure competitive grading for Tote and SIS broadcasting protocols.
  • Pursue sponsorships and manage relationships locally.
  • Interact professionally with owners and trainers during trials and races.
  • Liaise with industry stakeholders and representative bodies.
  • Assist with the implementation of Racing Rules and Regulations.
  • Participate in welfare initiatives including rehoming of greyhounds.
  • Take entries for racing and trials.
  • Promote stadium products to customers.
  • Contribute to Health, Safety and Welfare management.
  • Comply with RCÉ procedures and statutory requirements.

Rásaíocht Con Éireann / Greyhound Racing Ireland (GRI) has responsibility for the promotion, regulation, and on-going development of the Greyhound industry in Ireland.

Job Title: Racing Support Officer

Reports to: Racing Manager

Location: Shelbourne Park Greyhound Stadium, Dublin

Contract: Permanent, Full Time.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, working 5 days from 7, Monday to Sunday.

Objectives: The Racing Support Officer role is designated as a developmental role and offers excellent greyhound industry exposure in the areas of racing operations as well as in regulatory compliance and commercial aspects of the greyhound industry.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Develop a detailed understanding of all aspects of racing operations, including racing regulations, welfare standards and track operations.
  • Supervise racing operations on race days or nights as well as daytime and evening greyhound trials at locations assigned by your manager.
  • Supervise grounds and maintenance staff to ensure that the racing circuit is of the highest possible standard relating to safety and providing a fit for purpose racing surface.
  • Overseeing the maintenance of track equipment, kennels and related racing hardware equipment.
  • Involvement in the planning and promotion of Racing and Classic events.
  • Operate the greyhound grading system, the RMS and the electronic trials booking system
  • Ensuring competitive grading in order to maximise Tote and for SIS type race broadcasting purposes and protocols.
  • Seeking and achieving sponsorship for race events and the management of sponsorship relationships locally.
  • Deal with owners & trainers professionally and courteously at all times with a particular focus during trial sessions & race nights.
  • Liaising with greyhound industry key stakeholders and with their representative bodies.
  • Implementation of Rules and Regulations of Racing.
  • Participate in welfare initiatives to include rehoming of greyhounds.
  • Taking entries for racing and greyhound trials.
  • Promotion of Stadium products to potential customers.
  • Participate in Health, Safety and Welfare Management.
  • Comply with all RCÉ procedures, including all statutory procedures - Fire, Health and Safety, hygiene, internal audit.
  • Carry out any other reasonable task as assigned by management to meet with business needs.
Key Skills and Competencies
  • At least 6 months gained demanding role with excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel & Word.
  • Fluency in English is essential.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Has the ability to work towards tight deadlines whilst using their own initiative.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work as part of a team.
