Job summary

Gi Group Ireland are recruiting an R&D Project Engineer to join our innovative engineering and manufacturing partner Mayo site. You will manage projects from concept through development within a busy R&D team, driving innovation, continuous improvement and product enhancement initiatives.

The role requires a Mechanical Engineering degree, strong SolidWorks skills with BIM coordination, and experience with CAD automation (DriveWorks).

Qualifications

• Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in mechanical design or building services engineering advantageous.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks with BIM coordination.
• Experience using CAD automation tools such as DriveWorks.
• Open-minded approach to adopting modern engineering technologies, including AI-driven tools and innovative workflows to improve efficiency.
• Strong technical report writing and documentation skills.
• Excellent creative thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within a collaborative team environment.
• Knowledge and understanding of product development and product evaluation processes.
• Legally entitled to work within the EU.
• Fluent English, both written and verbal, for business communication purposes.

Responsibilities

• Attend weekly project meetings and present updates on ongoing R&D activities
• Support, follow, and continuously improve internal R&D processes and procedures
• Maintain and manage project GANTT charts to ensure milestones and deadlines are achieved
• Work closely with the R&D Manager to prioritise development projects effectively
• Conduct technical research to ensure the latest technologies, methodologies, and innovations are incorporated into projects
• Contribute proactively and creatively within the R&D department to drive innovation and efficiency
• Provide regular progress updates to senior engineering leadership
• Assist in the development, tracking, and monitoring of KPIs within the R&D function
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, design, manufacturing, and project teams
• Support product development, testing, evaluation, and continuous improvement activities
• Produce technical documentation, reports, and instructional materials where required
• Assist with design optimisation and process improvement initiatives across the business
