PE Global Recruitment is currently recruiting for an experienced Civil/Structural Project Manager to join a major Tier 1 civil engineering contractor delivering a high-profile motorway project in Cork.
This is a senior site-based position with responsibility for the delivery of significant civil and structural elements across the project. The successful candidate will oversee works including bridge structures, retaining walls, reinforced concrete structures, precast elements, culverts, earthworks interfaces and associated motorway infrastructure.
Reporting to the Contract Manager/Senior Project Manager, you will take responsibility for the safe, technical, commercial and operational delivery of your section of works. You will lead engineering, supervisory and subcontractor teams while ensuring works are delivered in line with programme, specification, quality and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage the delivery of civil and structural works across a major motorway project.
- Lead site engineering, supervisory and subcontractor teams.
- Coordinate the construction of bridges, retaining structures, reinforced concrete works, precast elements, culverts and associated civil infrastructure.
- Manage construction activities from planning and mobilisation through to completion and handover.
- Ensure works are delivered safely and in accordance with project specifications, approved drawings and TII requirements.
- Develop and manage construction programmes, short-term plans and delivery strategies.
- Coordinate labour, plant, materials, subcontractors and site logistics to achieve programme milestones.
- Provide technical leadership across structural and civil engineering activities.
- Review construction methodologies, RAMS, temporary works requirements and engineering solutions.
- Manage interfaces between permanent works, temporary works, earthworks, structures and wider motorway construction activities.
- Identify technical and construction risks and ensure appropriate mitigation measures are implemented.
- Oversee temporary works including falsework, formwork, propping and associated temporary structures.
- Maintain appropriate temporary works registers, inspections and permit systems.
- Ensure temporary works are designed, checked, constructed and authorised in accordance with project procedures.
- Implement and maintain project quality systems including ITPs, inspections and construction records.
- Ensure works are completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications and client requirements.
- Monitor progress against programme and identify potential delays or construction constraints.
- Work closely with commercial teams to identify variations, contractual changes and potential compensation events.
- Support cost control and commercial performance across the assigned works.
- Liaise with the client, designers, subcontractors and other key project stakeholders.
- Lead site safety inspections and ensure appropriate risk assessments, method statements, permits and safe systems of work are in place.
- Drive high standards of safety, quality and delivery throughout the project.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
- Strong experience delivering major civil engineering or structural construction projects.
- Previous Project Manager, Structures Agent, Senior Agent or similar project delivery experience.
- Strong knowledge of reinforced concrete structures, bridge works and temporary works.
- Experience managing engineering teams, supervisors and specialist subcontractors.
- Strong understanding of construction programming, project controls and commercial management.
- Ability to manage complex construction interfaces and multiple work packages.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety and quality requirements within major civil engineering projects.
Highly Desirable
- Previous experience delivering major motorway, roads or transportation infrastructure projects.
- Temporary Works Coordinator qualification.
- Experience working to TII specifications and standards.
- Knowledge of NEC contracts.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership.
- Experience across major infrastructure, transportation, marine, energy or heavy civil engineering projects.
