ESB is seeking a Professional Electrical Engineer to join the Substation Control Systems group in Dublin or Cork. The role focuses on the design, testing and commissioning of SCADA-based control systems for high voltage substations, including ABB MicroSCADA and Siemens SICAM solutions.

The HV Substations Delivery department in Networks Engineering, ESB Engineering & Major Projects is the centre of engineering design and project delivery for ESB's Transmission & Distributionsubstationdeliverables.
TheCommissioning &Substation Control Systems(SCS)group is a key part ofHigh Voltage Substation DeliveryGroup,whoseresponsibilitiesincludedevelopingSpecifications,Scoping, Designs & Pre-commissioning of SCADA Systems for high voltage transmission and distribution assets of ESB Networks.
The Substation ControlEngineer willbe requiredto haveatechnical design background, detailed knowledge of internal safetyproceduresandstrongcommunication andproblem-solvingskills.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities will cover the items below:
Development ofbespoke substation control system designs and system configurations for ESB Networks
Conduct and oversee factory and site acceptance testing across a suite of automation and substation control system products
Completepreliminary designs, fullyintegrateand test substation Control Systems for ESB's ABBMicroSCADAand Siemens SICAM systems.
Providing technical support to colleaguesin the area ofsubstation control system design, including regular on-site and test lab in-person support asrequired.
The Substation Control Systems Engineeris required tomanage their performance to ensure consistenthigh levelsof delivery, meeting clients' requirements, deliverydatesand the commercial performance of projects
A flexible approach to work, especially where necessary to deliver excellent customer service
Strong communicationand report writing skills

We are looking for the following;
The successful candidate will ideally have several of thequalitieslisted below:
2years' plus relevant experience in a utility or industrial environment with a background in specification, design, integration and testing of substation control systems, remote terminal units (RTUs), or industrial programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
Level 8 NFQ qualification or equivalent work experience is essential.
Knowledge of substation control system protocols, e.g. IEC 60870-5-101, 103, 104 and IEC61850.
A full driving license and access to a car.
A strong work ethic with a clear focus on delivery to ESB's safety, time,qualityand costobjectives.
Strong commercial and project management capability.
The ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
The ability to technically mentor junior team members.
A flexible approach to work, especially where necessary to deliver excellent customer service.
It is desirable that the candidate has achieved the following:
Experience in control centre SCADA, substation telecommunications, or power system studies is beneficial, but notrequired.
Candidate must have good English verbal and written communication skills, be willing to travel internationally and work successfully in a customer focused, project-oriented environment.
Location
This role is based in the ESB E&MP Dublin or Corkofficebut regular travel to project locations asrequiredis a key requirement of the role.

The successful candidate may combine remote / smart working within the jurisdiction, with attendance at base for in-person collaboration, at least two days per week.
