Major Responsibilities

Key stakeholders include Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering, Facilities, Finance and Legal.

Sourcing and negotiation
  • Manage procurement activity from defining requirements and sourcing suppliers through tender evaluation, negotiation and contract. Ensure these reflect the requirements of key stakeholders at all stages of the process.
  • Support key stakeholders in negotiations on price, payment terms, delivery, service levels and other commercial conditions, securing value appropriate to the company’s operational needs and financial position.
  • Work in an agile manner by flexing the sourcing approach based on expenditure, criticality, risk and urgency as defined by key stakeholders.
Cost savings and expenditure management
  • Identify cost savings and cost-avoidance opportunities across materials, services and capital expenditure and work with key stakeholders to prioritise and implement.
  • Agree savings baselines and validate delivered benefits with Finance, distinguishing realised savings from cost avoidance.
  • Challenge unnecessary commitments, minimum purchase requirements and inflexible contractual terms to support working capital management.
Commercial contract review
  • Undertake substantive first-line reviews of supplier agreements, using approved templates, standard positions and escalation guidance agreed with Legal.
  • Review and negotiate scope, deliverables, pricing, payment terms, acceptance criteria, service levels, warranties, renewal, termination and change-control provisions.
  • Identify issues relating to confidentiality, liability, indemnities, intellectual property and other legal provisions; negotiate within agreed parameters and engage within Legal.
  • Coordinate input from relevant key stakeholders so that technical, quality and operational requirements are clear and incorporated into the appropriate agreements.
  • Maintain legal/procurement contract records and monitor key commercial dates, including renewals, notice periods and expiry dates.
Supplier management and continuity
  • Develop effective relationships with critical suppliers and monitor delivery, service, cost and contractual performance.
  • Identify procurement-related supply risks and work with stakeholders to establish proportionate mitigation measures, including alternative sources where appropriate.
  • Address supplier performance issues and support/lead, as required, discussions to secure corrective action where appropriate; including supporting Quality in resolving issues involving GxP suppliers.
Flexible business partnership and procurement controls
  • Work closely with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering, Facilities, Finance and Legal to prioritise procurement requirements and support timely decisions.
  • Adapt quickly to changing business needs, balancing urgent operational requirements with longer-term value and risk management.
  • Identify and implement practical improvements that simplify procurement, reduce turnaround times and strengthen control without adding unnecessary administration.
Key Performance Indicators

  • Financial value: realised cost savings and separately reported cost avoidance, validated with Finance.
  • Negotiation outcomes: improvements in pricing, payment terms, contractual flexibility and total cost of ownership.
  • Procurement delivery: completion of priority sourcing and procurement projects within timelines agreed with key stakeholders reflecting the business needs and priorities.
  • Contract review effectiveness: quality and completeness of first-line reviews, enabling focused and proportionate Legal review and escalation.
  • Supply continuity and supplier performance: timely identification and resolution of procurement-related risks and supplier issues.
  • Procurement control: compliance with purchasing approvals, accurate supplier and pricing records, and timely action on contract renewals and notice periods.
