Job summary

Dell Technologies is seeking a Principal Software Engineer in Cork to join the Unstructured Data Storage group inside ISG. You will design and implement scalable storage software, collaborate with product owners, architects, and AI agents, and lead technical initiatives across the SDLC.

Ideal candidates have strong programming skills in C/C++/Java/Python, experience with distributed systems and storage protocols, and a proven track record in software architecture and mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of programming experience in C/C++, Java or Python.
• Experience in filesystem/distributed systems.
• Ability to translate business requirements into precise technical specs.
• Excellent analytical, debugging & problem solving skills.
• Advanced prompting and context engineering to guide AI tools toward desired outputs.
• Experience in software architecture: system design, API design, microservices.

Responsibilities

• Work on all aspects of software development life cycle: planning, requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
• Author and manage detailed technical specifications
• Collaborate with product owners, architects, AI agents and other engineers to define and implement technical solutions
• Coach and mentor more junior team members
