Job summary

RED Engineering Design in Dublin or Cork seeks a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead large M&E projects, coordinate design teams, and drive technical excellence. The role focuses on data centre and critical facilities with healthcare, pharma, and commercial scope.

You will guide engineering decisions, mentor junior staff, and ensure compliance with international standards while working in a hybrid Ireland-based environment.

Qualifications

• BSc/BEng in engineering or equivalent discipline.
• MCIBSE/MIEE or HNC/HND with appropriate experience or equivalent.
• Working towards Chartered Eng status.
• Significant experience in building services design for multiple building types.
• Solid knowledge of health and safety issues and legislation.
• Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel).
• Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
• Managerial and presentation skills.
• Experience in consulting or construction preferred.
• Experience with international project operations.

Responsibilities

• Leads large projects and acts as client-facing in design and coordination of M&E services for various building types.
• Develops and specifies control systems, instruments and operating software for building services.
• Carries out surveys, tests and dilapidation reports on existing installations.
• Ensures designs meet specifications, standards and customer requirements.
• Makes day-to-day decisions on project progress and liaises with clients.
• Represents the company at technical meetings with customers and contractors.
• Ensures calculations and drawings meet robust industry and legal standards.
• Leads coordination of engineering services and mentors junior staff.
