Job summary

U.S. Bank is seeking a seasoned Principal Engineer to drive engineering excellence, lead AI-enabled practices, and modernize legacy platforms into scalable cloud-native solutions. You will mentor teams, set enterprise standards, and guide API/microservice architectures across the portfolio.

The role requires deep expertise in API architecture, domain modeling, and secure, observable services, with a track record of large-scale modernization and leadership across engineering organizations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field (master's preferred).
• 15+ years of software engineering experience.
• 5+ years operating in a Principal Engineer or similar senior technical leadership role.

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain engineering standards, reference architectures, and best practices across the organization.
• Lead architecture reviews and provide technical governance for strategic initiatives.
• Drive adoption of modern engineering patterns including Domain‑Driven Design, Event‑Driven Architecture, API‑First Design, and Microservices.
