U.S. Bank is seeking an experienced Principal Engineer to lead AI-enabled engineering practices and enterprise architecture standards. You will mentor teams, modernize legacy platforms into scalable cloud-native solutions, and guide API and microservice strategy.

The role emphasizes driving AI adoption, governance, and architecture alignment with business goals, while elevating engineering capability across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field.
• 15+ years of software engineering experience.
• 5+ years in Principal Engineer or equivalent senior leadership role.
• Proven large-scale architecture & modernization experience.
• Strong Java/.NET/Python and enterprise stacks experience.

Responsibilities

• Define and maintain engineering standards, reference architectures, and best practices.
• Lead architecture reviews and provide technical governance for strategic initiatives.
• Drive modern engineering patterns including Domain-Driven Design, Event-Driven Architecture, API-First Design, Microservices, Cloud-Native Platforms.
• Champion AI adoption and establish AI engineering standards and governance.
• Coach teams on using AI tools for code generation, refactoring, and test creation.
• Mentor engineers, architects, and engineering managers to raise overall capability.
